Next time the little yappy white dogs come pouring into the street after Strega and I, I'll let Strega deal with them and to hell with their owners.
Just a little while ago, three of them came gang rushing Strega and I. We were on the opposite side of the street from their house, but they came out after us anyway. Being a good person and thinking how awful it would be for their owners, one of whom was there with the other in the doorway, I got between them and Strega and yelled to drive them off. Their owner called to them, ineffectually, but when they came rushing again he did nothing to come get them, just yelled again. This time when I moved to block them from Strega's teeth, I wound up tripping from Strega's lunge and fell on my butt. Did the owners do anything? Did they so much as apologize for their poorly behaved little yappy beasts? Nope. I cussed and said rather loudly "Strega, next time I'll let you bite them."
Suddenly, the female owner was yelling from the door for them. Gee, think the threat of being eaten by a doberman got her attention? Yeah. To think I'd just stopped carrying the anti-unleashed dog pepper spray. That'll teach me. Either carry it, or let Strega deal with the brat rats since their owners had no desire to control them properly and didn't even have the common courtesy to apologize for them.

The owners, anyway. The little dogs can't help it if they weren't raised properly.

Honestly, I have become much more aware of the multiple instances of bad dog ownership in the area. I know it's not like this in all communities. The Decatur area of Atlanta was full of dogs, none ran out into the street to attack or bark at me when I was walking, owners picked up after their dogs for the most part and I wasn't barked at from every damn house's backyard. When I was in Menasha, Wi, the same phenomenon happened. Dogs weren't running loose in the streets nor left constantly in the backyard with nothing to do but bark at passers-by. I don't know why the people HERE don't see a problem with it. Perhaps because leash laws aren't enforced with an iron fist.

I agree with you 100%. My neighbor has five large dogs. One night they sat by husband's pick up and barked all night long. I don't need to tell you that one thing I don't need is to lose more sleep. So, I told them the next time one of their dogs barked all night on my property, I would shot it. They told me I couldn't do that. I told them to call Hamilton Count Sheriff. I haven't heard anything from the dogs. But, my neighbor across the road shot one for destroying the garbage can and strewing garbage all over. If you have a dog, you need to take of it.

Prestone or Peak will do wonders for dogs. Don't ask me how I know....

Poisoning the dog to death is not an acceptable answer, rstwart. Shooting is kinder than the slow, painful death that particular version of poison causes. Anyone that does it is no better than Michael Vick.

Please don't poison animals!
If you wanna kill it,fine, shoot the damn thing. But poisoning an animal is just very cruel, and a very painful way for that animal to die.

But shooting is illegal within 250 yards of an improved road. Anti-freeze gets spilled "accidentally" all the time.

I'm just kidding. I would not poison any animal. I just don't get the whole dog thing.

Ask Hamilton County Sheriff. I was told if they are on my property doing any damage, I have the right to shot it. If it is a female dog in heat, and it is not tied or penned, I have the right to shot it on the owner's property. Two of my dogs were shot because they crossed the road. One was literally eaten alive by a German Shepard. Four males and one female was in heat. Linus was an eight pound mutt. He was loved by all members of the family. What really made me take action was the fact that Linus was on my front porch and my daughter was just about to open the door to let him in when the dogs attacked. Yes, she saw it all. It didn't take long for the rest of the dogs to be shot. Not by me. They were killing full grown cows and horses. Yes, I have shot a dog, and I would do it again.

If you take the carcasses to the local buffet, you can even make some money.

It's illegal to shoot (not shot) a firearm in city limits where we live. I don't believe I could ever shoot a dog unless it was in a great deal of pain. And then there's the fact that I don't even have a gun. Antifreeze is an anti-coagulant, and the animals die a horrible death. I've seen people who drank some to commit suicide. It's not pretty. (I know you were kidding about giving it to dogs) You were, weren't you?

My first dog died from drinking it, but it wasn't on purpose. Someone was careless after flushing their radiator.

Well, at least it's okay for women to kill their unborn babies, whether they can poison their dogs or not.
