The AJC has a slide show on quirky cures. Here's one of them: Pencils can help relieve tension headaches. Simply hold a pencil between your teeth without biting down on it. Since tension headaches usually involve tension of the jaw, doing this simple act will force you to relax your jaw muscles and hopefully relieve your headache. The rest can be found in this slide show. What home remedies have you found to work?

To prevent a hangover, drink as much water as you can stand before going to bed. At least two glassfulls and an aspirin. A B12 doesn't hurt either, but the water is the main thing.

To prevent a hangover, drink as much water as you can stand before going to bed. At least two glassfulls and an aspirin. A B12 doesn't hurt either, but the water is the main thing. If you have them handy, add in a couple tabs of vitamin C, one B1, and one B100. Not that I ever put much thought into hangover cores when I was younger. For headaches there is a pressure point near your wrist right where you thumb bones come together with your index finger bones that works wonders. Half a teaspoon of baking soda (maybe a teeny pinch of salt for flavor) in 6 oz of water is a great antacid and beats anything OTC at the druggist hands down. It is immediate and very effective. If you ate something bad charcoal will help settle your stomach. If you have just an upset stomach without any nasty thing you ate to blame try ginger. If ginger isn't enough try myrrh. Dip a toothpick in a bit of clove oil and then suck on the toothpick to suppress nausea. This one should be used carefully, because if you are really that nauseous then you may just need to barf up whatever is making you sick. I would not consider any one of these to be "quirky", they are just remedies. What sounds "quirky" to me is going to a doctor's office where every way you turn are things advertising this drug or that and expecting unbiased treatment

duct tape on warts-never tried it but i've been told it works!
Chamomile tea for nausea/upset stomach
I used to get earaches and my grandpa would blow pipe smoke into my ear. It was probably just the warm air that helped but it always stopped the pain for a while.
Spider bites-apply a paste of meat tenderizer and water
Insect stings-use the edge of a credit card to pull out the stinger without squeezing it (which will inject more venom!) and then apply a paste of baking soda and water.
This is an old nurse's trick, but it works-if someone has a high fever and sponging them with tepid water does not work to bring it down, fill 3 rubber gloves with ice, shove one in each armpit and one between their legs. They will NOT like it but it will bring the fever down.

Chamomile is more for relaxing and helping you sleep. I'm not too sure about it helping much with nausea, but the tea is often blended with peppermint, and peppermint tea is very good at settling your stomach.

Someone sent this in to the "newspaper doc" years ago and he published it. For carsickness put a brown paper bag on your stomach. I swear it works!
