I reckern it's somewhat important. The car starts without it, but my best guess is it's some kinda resistive part for the vacuum.

Does the car have cruise control and if so does it work? I'll see if I can dig up any information.

It appears to be a vacuum tank. If it is its purpose is to reduce vacuum pressure fluctuation. Plug it in anywhere in the vacuum system.

There should be a sticker diagram of the vacuum system somewhere under the hood. Underside of the hood, fender well, radiator support, etc. www.alldatadiy.com/about_alldata/index.html provides online garage quality information.

I actually posted the exact same thing on Craigs list and someone responded who has experience working on these things, so in trade for a beer he'll show me where the missing parts go!
