Not only did we win our appeal of the county's assessment of our property value, but the state judge knocked the county's total value below the 2004 assessment. That sliced $27,400 off our total assessment. The judge's ruling states that he was "puzzled" how the county arrived at its valuation, and how it didn't follow the rule of law. The ruling goes to lengths explaining the judge's bafflement that county assessors compared our home with homes on the gateway to Council Fire golf community, and much more salable homes on Gunbarrel Rd and Kenmoor neighborhood. Check your government's math!

Hmmmm..... YAY?
Seems rather odd to celebrate that you had to prove you're house isn't as nice as someone thought it was...
But lower taxes are ALWAYS a good thing.

Scarlett makes a good point. But the appraisal was not necessarily honest to begin with. The appraisal was biased with the intent to raise the tax base rather than what the true market value is.

Often times, other people in the area want the appraisals high so their homes will automatically be worth more.
I usually cheer when someone gets their taxes lowered, but with someone who is in favor of others' taxes being raised and redistributed, I have a hard time cheering; they deserve it.

We need to do away with the stupid law about reappraisals being "revenue neutral" anyway. This stupid ping-pong game the play where you were charged X % last year, costing you, for example, $1000, then you are reappraised this year so your rate has to go down so that you are still paying $1000, then next year they raise your rate, is just stupid. It should be a set rate, and if the value of your house goes up, you pay more property tax, and if the value of your house goes down, you pay less, and that should be the end of it.

We lost our appeal If they truly think my house is worth the amount they based our taxes on, I will sell them the house and most of the furnishings tomorrow....

I think a good solution is to let the individuals decide their own property values if they disagree with the assessment. With one caveat: Anyone can buy it at that price with no appeals.

Not in years. I like his citizenship ideas. Did he come up with this one too?

I'm sure you'll downplay that proximity to Council Fire when you go to SELL that rubbish heap in which you reside, right?

I like low assessments because I have absolutely no intention of selling my house before I retire, and then it's only a maybe. My house does not increase in value. Its value remains constant at "one home".
