Marlieta Milkovich, also known as Crazy Beer Lady, was found dead in a culvert behind the Red Bank Lion's Club this morning. Officers believe that she may have fallen Thursday evening. There was a short piece about the incident on News Channel 9 at 6 pm, but there does not seem to be any information on the website. *Photo from the April 20th issue of Just Busted magazine.

I can only hope that she has gone to a place where she can find the solace she once found in alcohol. May she rest in peace.

I knew her. I'm so sorry Marleita. Scarlett, you will probably miss her to. Peace, Marleita.

Oddly enough, I will miss her. While she was annoying sometimes, she was also amusing. It's going to take me a while to get over looking out the window to check on her.
I'm just sorry that she lay back there in the cold water over night. No one has said if they think she died in the fall or if she suffered. I may not have liked her on a personal level, but I had become comfortable with her and she was a part of my life. I wouldn't want any one to suffer that way. The thought of ANY one falling down in a ditch, hurt and no way to get out and no one who cared enough to go LOOK for her is just so very sad.
I'm just hoping that she found a warm dry place to be at rest now.

Whenever I saw her I would say Hello, Marleita, you may remember me, my name is Barbara. She would curl back a lip and say in a snarley way "I know who you are" and then bashfully smile and look away.

There but the grace of not drinking go I.
(I've often wondered, if I were to wreck on a trail run or bike ride, how long before anyone noticed I was gone? I'm betting I'd be missed right about when the neighbor started wondering why the dogs were barking so desperately.)

I hate it that she met this fate. This is the second incident in a week that may cause someone to understand why I worry about the things I do.

All those little rules about "going alone" are hard to obey but also should be attempted. No I don't practice what I preach, but I try.
Cat you could tell someone to call you at XX:XX "If I haven't called you first, just to make sure I didn't fall or something". (I know your neighbor would gladly do that)
And ghods if that girl "called out the troops".... .[grin]

Even better for WK: Write down your intended route/schedule and leave it magnetted to your fridge and/or call and let someone know you'll be riding such & such route at such and such time.

See, Justin gets after me to do that too, but frankly I don't always have my route planned out in that much detail and sometimes just decide to do something else. It's the FREEDOM I enjoy. Freedom from having to check in with anyone or check out or whatever. I know there's risk involved, but then I could wind up in a major wreck on the way to the grocery store and not have anyone trace me by what ID is available back to my current temporary residence, y'all or much of anything else. Hell, I could get run down walking my dogs and I'm certainly not checking in with someone to do THAT either.
So, I'll just merrily roll the dice and enjoy my complete and utter freedom to either let people know where I'm going or not according to my whim that day. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

Don't worry, Sugar: "I've Got Your Scent".
By the way, when are you going to line-dry clothes again?

WWHHHOOOOAAAAAA!!!!!!
You said you wouldn't TALK about that!!!! Anyhoo, that was me in the blonde wig with the paddle.... (and my musical estimation of you just went waaaayyyyy up)
To avoid a threadjack, let me say that CBL's saga epitomizes the plight of the 'deserted' peoples of the Streets of Chattanooga. I don't call her 'homeless' because she doubtless had one once; probably had relatives who either died off, or just plain got exhausted with dealing with it and crept quietly away.
THINK about CBL and those like her the next time you run up on one of these fine-feathered, hale-and-healthy bastards with their sign at an intersection on a bright, sunny warm day. THEY AIN'T the "homeless"!
