The Sequoyah High School electrical program is apparently at risk of being cut for budget reasons. Many believe that the program has value and that it is a means for students to gain valuable workplace skills. I don't know if the program is valuable or not, but perhaps Mrs. Thurman, who has advocated for the program, can save it.
A few weeks ago, Mrs. Thurman was again on Talk Radio, and when asked what the annual salary for a board member was, she replied, "I think it's about nine thousand, but I'm not really sure, it goes directly into my savings account (chuckle)" or words to that effect. Presumably, what Mrs. Thurman was saying is that she doesn't need or use any of her county-funded salary, and by means of direct deposit, it goes straight into her savings.
A good leader must have the discipline and character to work towards a common vision, as well as to direct his/her actions and those of the team toward the goal. Planning, and the ability to execute and implement that plan, is the mark of a leader. A leader sets aside differences, and is always doing something in pursuit of the common vision while inspiring others to do the same.
During my 23 years of military service defending our nation, I learned very early that one aspect of leadership is never asking anyone to give up that which you are not 'first' willing to sacrifice. Instead of asking the taxpayers to continue to fund this program, if Mrs. Thurman truly believes that the Sequoyah program is important enough to continue to fund, I challenge her to donate her last 12 months of saved board paychecks, forfeit her next 12 months of Board salary and forfeit her next 12 months of county-funded benefits. Donate $10,000, forfeit approximately $10,000 in salary and give up almost $10,000 in benefits and she'll be halfway to her goal of funding the $60,000 annual cost of the program's teacher. She can then show dynamic leadership by encouraging her fellow board members to collectively donate or forfeit portions of their salaries to make up the difference.
That's leadership. We'll see how much she has.

There is a saying amongst those of us with a even a hint of common sense and decorum (Those of us whose mouth has once written a check their ass has had to to cash).
After that first mouth inspired ass whippin', most of us learned to check the words that subsequently came out of our mouths (Or out of our keyboards) in due respect to our once whipped ass.
Mr. Clark has evidently failed to learn that lesson and I hear he has plenty of ass left at the First of the Third United Ass Checking Bank And Video Rental as evidenced by this latest tepid attempt at slamming Mrs. Thurman, Vocational School students and NNPPs (Non Normal Park Parents).
Even I have learned (See the check cashing/video thing) to infrequently STFU in deference to common sense and decorum.
The aforementioned saying is, "STFU" if you haven't caught on by now, Mr. Clark. I'd think that 21 years of military service (Does REMF ring a bell?) would have given you a heads up.
Look it up Mr. Clark. If not, Mrs. Clark needs to put an IntoxLock on your email account.
