The hits just keep on coming. After undergoing more surgery Wednesday for an infected incision, Babs learned tonight that she had a staph infection which will need IVs and treatment for weeks.
This news has been depressing, but Babs is upbeat as ever. Still in the hospital, I hope she is coming home tomorrow.
God love her.

Thanks to all for the good wishes. For the third day in a row, we are told that "tomorrow you can go home." The infection is a resistant staph variety, and there is lots of debate about treatment.
Babs is so tired of this, and wants very much to be home.
Hospitals are not nice places.

Oh man. Hospitals make you sick. That totally sucks. Hope she's home and on the mend really soon... and no more nasty hospitals!

iI'm home now! 5 days in the hospital htis time. Flat on my back, hospial bed. IV's rond the clock. The outpt. med I'll start this week sometime is 7,000 dollars, insurance or no. Was gong to have to have a home health care nurse come in daily to do it IV, but there is an alternative for oral meds that should work. A few more weeks at home, but at least it's at home! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Turns out it was MERSA.What a mess! Felix was so good to me! Some nights, I could use the portable bedside commode and found thay if I looked 'way down rverm I could see the glow of the stage lights. I hoped they couldn't see me, but I guess Sherll and Allison wew moe interesting. Hurts like the dickens, but I know many of you have been through a lot worse. Hats off to you. I understand now.

Babs, We all hope you can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and recovery will be over in a short time.
I don't want to be nosy, but you mentioned "no insurance" in post 27. Seems we are all fighting the "insurance monster" one way or another these days, but does your job at the bend not provide insurance ? That's scary.

Babs, with no insurance, try looking up the pharmaceutical company that makes the antibiotics you are taking and see if they have any sort of assistance program-sometimes they offer deals on high cost drugs for the uninsured.

The bills have started coming in. $46,000 for the first stay. $2,000 for the ambulance trip. Haven't seen any from the second sstay yet. I can't worry about it..There's nothing I can do. I'll pay some each month. Thanks for your thoughts. I keep thinking about when we first met Dave years ago. He had many broken bones !

If you pay $20 a month you are showing intent to pay. That alone prevents them from taking legal action.
I've played that game for years. we need to meet and discuss battle plans.

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen is exactly why this country needs "socialized medicine." I'm not a politician and I don't know the way to fix our broken down health care system... but sick and injured people need to be able to see a doctor without fear of the BILLS!

Thanks, Bob. That's load off my mind. That's kind of what the ambulance people said when they called to see if I intended to pay the bill. I told her I couldn't pay it all right now, and she became very nice and asked if I could pay $10.00. I hope we can do it this way.

Get rid of what causes that, and all of the other ghastly charges, and you won't need socialized medicine. An ambulance ride shouldn't be as cheap as a taxi, but $2,000 seems a bit steep.

You should see the ambulance bill that I had a few years ago. It took me from the hospital in Atlanta to rehab here in Chattanooga. Also had a pretty high 'air ambulance' bill, too. It air lifted me from my crash site in Murphy,NC to the hospital in ATL. which included a fuel stop.

I can see that one being high, not even knowing the circumstances.

They had to come downstairs, load me up, get me out. They started the IV in the ambualnce before Cherry St.Vitals and information taken before we got to the ER. A bay was waiting. The crew stayed with me until a nurse came in.X rays and surgery within a few hours. I have no complaints. I can never pay the whole bill, which probably be 200,000 but I won't ignore them. On a plus side, I can wash my hair in the kitchen sink, bruch it kind of, and go to the bathroom alone with some supervision ludrking in the hallway. And, of course, I am always able to pour some Sprite! Lately, it's been more of the canned, real stuff. Prescription drugs and alcohol do NOT mix well. I'm opting for old movies, books, and sleep.

Oops, I was wrong. It was $936.00 dollars for the ambulance ride. Felix found the bill. I will say it was worth every penny!

I think my ambulance ride cost about $700 4 or 5 years back, and I had to order an XL.
