If they're all hens it's not a problem. Since roosters aren't necessary for hens to lay eggs, it's entirely possible to have chickens that don't wake the neighbors.

Ever smelled a chicken coop on a hot summer day? My uncle raised a lot of chickens in N. GA. and my dad had a spot in the yard that he had trouble growing grass. My uncle gave him some "compost" that he guaranteed would grow grass and it did. Our yard was beautiful and we were happy with it until the first summer storm was followed by a scorching hot summer afternoon. We were unpopular in the neighborhood that summer.

We were unpopular in the neighborhood that summer. Growing up My dad worked at a..... lets say Building that hosted a circus yearly around McCallie Ave. For a few years he thought it was great to haul off the elephant "waste" and use it for the yard. I would gladly trade those days for your chicken "compost".

Yeah... When mom built a house in Harrison on what was a hill of red clay, her brother offered us a truck full of "Chicken Fertilizer". It was bad when we started spreading it by the shovel full. It seemed to get worse and worse as we went. The first half of the yard grew beautiful, even grass... the part where we spread the stuff evenly. The other half had clumps of grass where the shovels full landed with bare rocks next to it. When you start sweating and the chicken stuff flying through the air starts blowing back on you and sticking... You just want the job OVER and DONE.
