Its a state law. I don't know about Georgia.

Bob, what is the criteria for a handicapped sticker. My mother lives with me and is elderly and has trouble walking distances. However, she is not in a wheelchair. I've oftened wondered if she might qualify.

She'll need to get a form from the DOS filled out by her doctor. They're not difficult to get. Even easier to renew(no doctor form for renewals.just turn in the old placard) Just see people at WalMart that use them to see how easy they are to obtain handicap tag and placards do not pay for parking meters. Its a state law. I don't know about Georgia. Republic Parking is also free. Not sure about unattended lots, though.

Just see people at WalMart that use them to see how easy they are to obtain >:(ough. Yep. Although, sometimes the legitimate ailment that gets you the placard is not visible. Hubby's grandmother got one because of her heart condition. She could walk into the store, but often used the store provided electric chair. Sometimes it's something really strange. A friend had one because he has Chrome's disease. This is an affliction of the lower intestine. He gets to use the Handicapped spaces all the time because, now and then, he might need to get to the toilet quickly. I don't really agree with that one.

That's a crappy reason to have one.

It's Crohns disease I think. Sounds more like old lady than shiney bits on a car.

The tag is assigned to the car, the plackard to the person. I watched a cop at north-gate ask a lady if the plackard was assigned to her, the lady said "Oh no, its for my mom" (I was slowly unloading my wheelchair in the next spot) The cop said "Where is your mom" the lady said "At home" at which time the cop wrote her a ticket The lady did a great job acting like she didn't know mom had to be in the car for the plackard to be legal... I waited and thanked the cop.
You can go to the place where you get your tags, to pick up a form. A doctor has to sign it. Take it back and they give you one.

My son just told me that his friend's dad has a placard because he has Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome after being in the Gulf war. WTF? Not being able to find a parking place gives him shell shock flashbacks?

Have you ever been to Walmart when pork rinds go on sale? War is hell, but NOTHING compares to the frenzied women hitting a clearance rack.

Thanks for the info. Mom would need the placard not the plate. She doesn't drive. I wouldn't use the placard unless she was with me. I used to be married to someone in a wheelchair and I know how frustrating it is to see someone using a handicapped spot who doesn't appear to need it. Though, as some have pointed out, it may not always be obvious. Thanks again.

The plackard would be better for her anyway. It makes any car she is in legal to park in handicap spots.
