My last race (five or six years ago), the Missionary Ridge run (2.5 miles down Missionary Ridge and back) Here I am setting up. (Race chair is on the right) They let the wheelchairs go first for the safety of the runners. (Except I'm not that fast) On the finish, I was trying to turn left on an off-camber turn when an old guy swerved into my path. I could break one or both of his legs or try to dodge him, so I swerved. Finding myself on two wheels I decided I WAS NOT going to crash on that concrete. Got the chair back on all three wheels then looked up and noticed I was three feet from flying off the side of the ridge..... Kudzu tastes terrible. I didn't hit a bottle, stump, rock or anything else that would have hurt me. I went off the edge between two BIG EMTs that carried me, chair and all back up to the road. One of them walked up to my jeep and got my other chair and brought it to me. After bending the racing chair so I could get out of it I got in my other chair and finished the race. 47 minutes was my official time. (And that included the crash and rescue) [grin] You can't tell in this photo but my right shoulder is ALL road rash, my helmet was cracked, I was bleeding (but not bad). This guy was after the finish line asking me if I was sure I was OK. [grin] I told him NO but I'd been that way for years.... Thanks to my friend David Robinson for taking these photos.

So, do you ever get the old "SIlver Bullet" out any more?
Or are we just waiting for a tank chair?

It was a loaner, too dangerous to push around and too expensive to maintain (keep bending back after crashing it)
[grin]
