If it is just French for group, why don't we just say group? We are speaking English, aren't we? We don't ask for fromage-burgers, do we?

My association with peloton is its sound-alike, pelting, in one sense:
intransitive verb 3 : to move rapidly and vigorously : hurry
I was sort of waiting for a reference to "freedom fries," but perhaps someone will trot that topic out yet.
Heh.

Hmm. Freedom fries. How curious. Its a revolt against the damnable Belgians.

We don't use "group" because most pro cyclists aren't American.
American's aren't very pro-cycling in general.
Result, we wind up with the word used by half the pro cyclists. The other half would call it a groupo

So, half of pro cyclists are French? And the other half Italian? No wonder I don't like the sport. And no wonder it pisses them off so badly when an American kicks their ass at their own game.

Hee heee! Sure seems that way anyhow.
Right now they're all pleased. Lance isn't the favorite.

That's almost as bad as football players.
