Yes, I asked permission.
As to the intimacy with the boiler - years ago, my two (then young) sons really, really liked trains. We'd repeatedly gone to the choo choo where I wiped (petted) around the insides of that engine ("next to 'tender'") and greased ('lubricated') levers and stuff to make them work better. It wasn't even volunteer work. It was just 'showed up with a rag and some grease'. Probably broke some kind of law diddling with the machine. Tough. No harm, no foul. So yes, it should be no surprise that I instantly recognized the image. Been there and really done that.
