What OS are you running on your "main" PC? I set the poll where you can pick two because some people do as much on their "work" computer as their "home" computer so you can pick 2 "main" computers.

I'm still working with XP. It still works fine for me and I haven't had a need to upgrade.

Some businesses are still running windows2000 pro Microsoft extends Windows XP downgrade rights until 2020 Gregg Keizer, ComputerWorld 7/13/2010 With 74% of business PCs running XP, the move is more proof that it's the OS that won't die Just a day before Microsoft drops support for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the company announced on Monday that people running some versions of Windows 7 can "downgrade" to the aged operating system for up to 10 years. The move is highly unusual. In the past, Microsoft has terminated downgrade rights -- which let customers replace a newer version of Windows with an older edition without paying for two copies -- within months of introducing a new OS. goitec.com/article.html?a=Microsoft-extends-Windows-XP-downgrade-rights-until-2020

it is very simple. i have stated time and time again over the internets. microshaft has a long history of releasing incomplete operating systems. XP was also no exception to this fact either. when MS pulled the plug on XP support last year, XP was finally the product it should have been when it was released in 2001.
vista is garbage, i have 2 copies of it and i am far from impressed. havent used windows 7 but maybe 5 times. XP will be my main OS until i can not install it anymore. i have no reason to upgrade, and i have all my system drivers backed up and stored so formatting is no problem for me.

And if you upgrade to 7, your old hardware might not have the drivers for the new operating system... Your old software might not work w/ Windows 7... And if your old hardware still works for ya, there's no point in upgrading it.

95% of all the PCs I ship are now loaded with Windows 7 Professional 64bit, with a few 32 bits thrown in and some xp downgrades.
Since 7 pro has xp mode, it will run most software even if it's not windows 7 or 64bit compatible.

But even with XP mode, you can forget about a lot of hardware. I have half a dozen USB devices that don't work under Win7-64 (although they probably wouldn't have worked under XP-64 or Vista-64 either). Unfortunately, I also have to support quite a bit of older hardware, and the software needed to support it can be quite problematic. Some of this is 16bit Windows, some even DOS. Yes, I can run some of it in XP mode, but even on a fairly modern PC with hardware virtualization, it takes quite a bit of time to boot it up. Anything needing a parallel port is right out. USB to Centronics adapters don't work for that, they only implement the bare minimum needed to get a printer going (sometimes).
Windows 7 is much better than Vista, I'll give them that. It does piss me off that just when I get comfortable knowing where all the configuration options can be found, they change them all.
And don't get me started about what a nightmare the latest versions of Office have become.
I run Win7-64 at work because I have to.
I run Ubuntu (on my fast machines) and Xubuntu (on my slow machines) because I want to.

2 machines: Windows 7 on one, and XP on the other. I have a lot of software and hardware that won't work on 7, even in XP mode.
