The numbers are in. The question is whether going to bed later makes you smarter, or whether smarter people choose to go to bed later, need less sleep, think too much and can't get to sleep, have more to do, or what. Psychology Today:_________________________________________________ Bedtimes and wake-up times for Americans in their 20s by IQ. Very Dull (IQ < 75) Weekday: 11:41 P.M.-7:20 A.M. Weekend: 12:35 A.M.-10:09 A.M. Normal (90 < IQ < 110) Weekday: 12:10 A.M.-7:32 A.M. Weekend: 1:13 A.M.-10:14 A.M. Very Bright (IQ > 125) Weekday: 12:29 A.M.-7:52 A.M. Weekend: 1:44 A.M.-11:07 A.M.

Some people will do ANYTHING to stay up past their bed time.

"Early to bed and early to rise makes your girl go out with other guys." Hadn't heard that one... I've always been a night owl!

I'm just hoping my teen doesn't hear this load of crap. He's already turning into a 'vampire' staying up all night and sleeping all day. Although - I think he does that to get out of yard work.

One of my favorite quotes, I'm not sure who said it.
"Every day I do two things I hate, I get up and I go to bed"
fits me perfectly.

Considering how many truly brilliant people I know that get up early to work out before starting the day, I suspect this study is flawed.
On the other hand, my natural sleep schedule would have me up late and sleeping in rather than my current "get up before dawn to run before it gets too damned hot to breath."

Some people are just night owls. If it wasn't for having to be responsible and having to work, I'd stay up all night and sleep all day too.

I showed this study to my wife. I usually go to bed between midnight and 1, and get up about 5 AM.

Dang... Sleeping that little isn't healthy either...

Says who? I have studies showing otherwise; that it varies from person to person, and 4 hours is the minimum required. Archimedes slept for 2 hours per night.

There are a lot of studies...

Like you said, there are all kinds of studies, and many of them come to different conclusions.

I am 58 and have had my IQ measured at 140 or so. I go to bed on weekdays between 8:30 and 9:30, depending on how interesting my current reading material is, and get up at 4:15. I'm at work around 6:00 and work till 5:00 and I'm on salary. Intelligent yes, sensible no.

I showed this study to my wife. I usually go to bed between midnight and 1, and get up about 5 AM. Though, I must say it would be nice if I could sleep 4 to 5 hours a night. I'd have a lot more time to do other stuff. Unfortunately, I get pretty sleepy if I don't get at least 6 hours a night. And then it's also much harder to wake up in the morning to go to work...

What Archimedes did, according to one book I read about him, was sleep for two hours at night and take 15 minute naps every couple of hours.
