Yesterday afternoon I stopped by a local Kangaroo c-store for a six-pack of adult beverage. Much to my chagrin, I was refused since I do not have a photo ID. As you may know, the state of Tennessee no longer requires "senior citizens" to have photos on the driver's license. No purchase allowed. As a result, I will be contacting a few law firms today to explore charges of age discrimination. Any interest in a class-action?

From what you say above, I gather the beverage was withheld from you because of lack of a photo ID, not because of your age.
As a former boss like to say, "Einstein doesn't pump gas." It's unlikely you encountered a genius behind the counter. Counter Person was probably taught "photo ID required. Period".
Suit denied.
Get a photo-id.
and a green card while you're at it - and get one for me too. Naturally, classy person that I am, I'd really prefer a pistachio card, but I don't know if it would work as well.

When I reached a certain age of "maturity" the state advised me that I no longer needed to have my photo on my driver's license, and that to do so would, in fact, cost more. I opted out of the photo. Since then it has been accepted at a drug-testing lab where I went for a pre-employment screening, even though a sign said "photo ID required". After a brief discussion, the manager agreed. It also recently was accepted as proof of ID for voting. Even this store has accepted the ID in the past, but now has apparently changed their policy, probably due to some bobble-head selling beer to a minor who had an official-looking ID without a photo. However, I still maintain that to deny business to a group of people who comply with the law is discrimination.
Don't know about the green or pistachio card, but there's a place out on Lee Highway that accepts a mauve card...

As you may know, the state of Tennessee no longer requires "senior citizens" to have photos on the driver's license. Since most people use their driver's license as a form of photo ID, I think it's crazy that TN doesn't require senior citizens to have a photo on their driver's license. I agree with Yoda. It's not age discrimination. The gas station requires a photo ID, and you didn't have a photo ID since your driver's license doesn't have a photo. I don't think they should accept it. You've created this problem for yourself by not spending a few more bucks and getting your photo on your driver's license.

Hey pictureman - why didn't you just show them your carry card? It has a picture on it. <grin>

Jay, while the state does not require a photo on the ID, it does require a birthdate, which any reasonable person would accept, especially in regards to how old a person looks. Also, did you miss the part where he has used said DL as a form of ID in other places and had is accepted?? Didn't think so. So STFU.
I think it's stupid that the state charges more for the picture. In regards to the lawsuit, I don't think that it would succeed, but the judge would probably maintain that it is the responsibility of the store to know that pictures are not required and that they should inform their employees of such.

I'll be in court tomorrow on an unrelated matter, so should be able to find plenty of legal eagles, since courtrooms attract lawyers like flies on doodoo.
As a footnote to this discussion, WalMart has signs over the beer cooler that say (paraphrasing), "...if you don't look over 40 you must have ID...", yet, when you check out, the sign at the register says, "...must have ID to buy beer...". We, of course, get "carded" every time. I assure you that I haven't looked under 40 for a very long time (9 grandkids and 30 years in sales will do that). I quickly learned not to argue the point. (See Yoda's "Einstein" comment, above.)
I'm going to quit drinking beer! I'm going to hire Robin Flores!
What was the third one? Oh, yeah... Of course I'll respect you in the morning!

The reason they need ID is for your birthday, usually. The date gets entered into the pos because math is too difficult for some. The reason you were denied beer at the store wasn't because you're too old, it was because their policy states 'picture ID'. Next time it's time to renew your ID, skip the 12 pack to save for the picture. No, really!

First Warkitty, an administrator, and then Thorne, another administrator tell me to 'shut the fuck up' in public. How nice... Gotta love the potty mouths that the admin have on this forum. It's so nice the way they respect their users.... Anyway... It doesn't matter whether or not other places accepted his ID or didn't. This store requires a "Photo ID" and Pictureman did not have one.

pictureman: At first I thought this was a joke. Now I see that you are serious about this. All I have to say is you are one the biggest cry babies I have ever heard from. Getting your panties in a wad over some none issue. People like you have destroyed this country by running to a lawyer instead of just going someplace else. You are just trying to use this as get rich quick scheme. Who gives a F#$k that you had to go to another store so you could get drunk. You probably have a history of filing BS suits over nothing. I hope you do file and loose. You should not only have to pay your lawyer but theirs along with all court costs. This sounds more like you forgot to clean your Depends and now have a bad rash.
If you do not like their rules go some place else.

osrb: Actually, the incident was true, but the part about the lawsuit was a joke, offerred just to see who might respond and how. Back when I was probably about your age I'd get my panties in a wad quite often, but as I reached an arguable state of maturity, panty-wading issues just don't bother me anymore.
And if lawyers depended upon me to make their paychecks, there would be far fewer lawyers. I've actually had legal representation twice in my life: once I had an attorney write a letter to an employer advising them that pursuing their "no-compete contract" with me would be fruitless; cost me fifty bucks. Other time was to get my son out of a "situation" in Florida. The meter's still running on that one. (My reference to court today: the defendant, charged with two counts of aggravated criminal trespass had an attorney; I didn't need one.)
And, I don't remember the last time I got drunk. Too drunk to remember, probably. Must have been about 1988.
"Depends...bad rash...", precious. For the record, Depends are not cleaned, they're replaced.
I don't like their rules, and I did go somewhere else. Right or wrong I have a couple of friends who've found themselves out of work lately, so I'm buying. I'm sure that, when your President's latest "plan" kicks in they'll be happily employed and will reciprocate.
Frankly, I thought your response was a little over-the-top for my tale of woe, then it dawned on me: you fancy yourself a writer, so this was an effort to be creative. Remember this lesson in rhetoric: sarcasm is the lowest form of humor.
By the way, whoever told you that a class-action lawsuit was a "get-rich-quick scheme" lied to you.

Jay: Yes, two admins have told you to STFU in public, mainly because you've become an annoying, bothersome twit that is an insult to idiots everywhere in the way that you have responded to posts.
OSRB: Dude, what the hell happened to your sense of humor? Read the part about "reasonable" and then apply it to yourself. If someone ever took this to court, I'd lay even money that the judge would probably do something along the lines of what I said, and any reasonable person realizes that. And also, pictureman is quite correct about the point of class action lawsuits. They are filed every day, usually for a damn good reason, and only in bad novels does anyone (even the lawyers) make a ton of money off of them. The vast majority of class actions are filed because a judge has seen enough evidence to allow a group of people to file suit against a major corporation because said corporation has wronged those (and other) people. Look in the newspaper and you'll probably see at least one notice of a class action filed against a company and the lawyers are asking if there are any more to be added to the case. The claims usually are $10-100 per person (if the company is found liable), or goods are offered in lieu of money. And as far as "people like that have destroyed this country", well, you're not as nearly as intelligent as I thought that you were.
And IMO, picman has a right to be upset over this issue. TN does not require a picture on DL for senior citizens, therefore the store (who should have knowledge of this, and I'd bet my next paycheck that it does) should train it's employees in that regard.

You guys should set a proper example for everyone else and maintain higher standards of conduct. And IMO, picman has a right to be upset over this issue. I was discriminated against today. I applied for a job installing AT&T, and they have a 275 pound weight limit. At 6'9", when I only weighed 275 pounds, I was downright slim.
So, a fatty who is 5' tall could do it, but I can't.
Height discrimination!

And unless someone says something really stupid, like, say, arguing with someone in regards to something that was said that you weren't present for, or tells someone else that they should have a picture ID regardless of if the law requires it "because it's the policy of the store", we tend to have respect for the members of the board. Of course, I was raised (as were the administrators on this board and quite a few of the members, other than yourself) to expect to have competent people behind the counter or serving us our food in restaurants. And I'd expect that most of them will agree with me when I state that we should demand competence when we go into any place of business. See, I feel that OSRB was mistaken in his claim about lawsuits being the cause of destruction of this country. Instead, I feel that one of the many things that is causing the decline of this country is that we, the citizens, have adopted the laissez faire attitude of which you are guilty of, and when someone who is obviously incompetent states that "store policy" won't allow him/her to sell beer to someone who is obviously of age and who has the proper state required identification, you just go "Okay" and walk away instead of demanding that your rights be observed. And you might say "It's only a six-pack, so it's not worth it." Then it becomes something else, then something else and whoops, you now have lost ALL of your rights and freedoms. It's happened before (ever heard of a guy named Joe McCarthy?), it will happen again. Which makes you just as incompetent and stupid as the person who told you that. In which case, I refuse to show you any respect, because you don't deserve it. Fucking moron.

I obviously can't respect you or Warkitty since you people can't have a mature conversation without resorting to bad language.
This is what's wrong with this forum. There's too many administrators who don't have any business being administrators. Proper administrators should always maintain higher standards of conduct and shouldn't act like immature and petulant little children.

There are a lot of people that have gotten annoyed or mad and left this forum. Some came back some not. Some of them are missed some not. And some nobody ever noticed they left. No single person is that crucial to the longevity of this board. Admins come and go as do members
As many "potty" words as you have read on this forum, you seem to only take issue with the ones directed at you, well guess what cupcake, the people here aren't going to change no matter how much complaining you do. BUT!!!! I know of a forum or two that have filters on those kinds of words, perhaps you should investigate hanging out at a nicer place.

If these words were directed at any other member, I would have reacted the same way. It is immature and unprofessional behavior.
