Any recommendation on a tree service? I have two dead trees, both of them very close to my house and my two neighbors' properties. So "Licensed, Bonded, and Insured" would be best (if they even license tree services), but "Insured" (that is, coverage for personal and property damage as well as Worker's Compensation) is a must.

My mom just had a tree cut. The people who did it were VERY GOOD with all those requirements. I don't have the number at hand, but I'll try to get it to you tomorrow.

Chattanooga Tree Service - 899-5753
They've cut trees for me a couple of times, including one RIGHT next to the house, did an excellent job.

If you have a lot of trees to cut, try Lewis tree service from Soddy. I've used them several times with good success, but they can be a little pricey on smaller jobs.
Most recently, I've used Wayne Robertson (667-9345). He did a good job and was a bit cheaper, but I don't think he has the gear to handle a lot of trees at once.
Both are insured and have, to date, dealt honestly with me.

I reccommend Big Woodys tree service. They aren't the cheapest but they do good work andare all insured and such. They are the ones that took out the mess in my front yard and the 150ft tree over the house.
Plus the logo on their trucks will make anyone laugh that drives by. they own most of all their euipment and their name was given to me by someone at Asplundh since Asplundh is a corporate contracted tree service. Big woodys is very good and do a good job on safety including having a 40ton crane and other equipment, they also have the means to haul away said tree debris.

I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated.

I'm reasonably sure Durham was the service that came out the same day and got rid of the ash limb that punctured our roof the day we moved in. They were quick and I remember watching them out the window, kind of bouncing around on the limbs and generally having a good time while they worked. Of course, this could have been one college kid working a summer job that particular weekend, and not have any bearing on anything, but you know what they say about first impressions. If I needed a tree service, I'd probably try them first.

Thanks to all for the recommendations! (Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been "otherwise occupied" lately.) Now on to the fun part...

As requested, a follow up. I chose to go with L. H. Lewis Tree Service in Soddy. (We had used them several years ago.) As mentioned, they are not the cheapest, but with the number of trees (four since I decided to have the two dead trees and two others right next to them taken out) and the closeness to our house and neighbors' houses or fence, I decided the risk/reward ratio pointed to paying for the established company. This was borne out by a nearby house whose owner appears to have used a two-men-and-a-saw company or did it themselves. They wound up needing to replace the roof, guttering, front porch/deck, and several windows after the tree fell on the house. I did not need that! Plus, the Lewis folks even took out a smaller tree for no charge so that they could get to the four trees from two sides. So I got four and one-half trees for the price of four.
All in all, I would recommend Lewis Tree Service, but you may have to save up the money to pay for the work.
