The Lake Winnie Halloween show is actually VERY FUN! I was actually impressed by what they have done. (Yes, my hubby worked on part of it - but he wasn't the only one.) Lake Winnie teamed up with Alan Ledford (recently the Drama director from CCA) who hooked up the Winnie team with some very high caliber spooks to work the park.
The entire park is open (except for the Water slide & Water park). It's all decorated with very fun, imaginative displays featuring old, broken ride cars that have been placed to look like they "crashed" all over the park. All the employees are dressed in Halloween costumes. Many of the guests - especially the children - were also in costumes.
I can't remember the last time I saw so many people having so much FUN at the park! Even the teen aged 'anksters' were all laughing and happy. Some of them actually seemed to be enjoying their Family outing - WITH their families! That's amazing.
The main Spruce Ups for the Holiday were the Castle (Haunted House) ride and the Train Ride. If you go - DO NOT MISS those! They put a ton of work into those with spooky scenes and live actors. There were lots of signs posted around the Alpine Way (Chair Lift) - but I only saw a few decorations on that ride - most of which could be seen from the midway. There is a VERY nice special effect in the boat chute, but I won't ruin that one for you.
Considering the fact that it was my Husband who did most of the extra decorations in the Castle (and was one of the actors last night) - it did my heart good to see so many people coming out of there laughing and screaming and pre-teens gleefully shouting "Let's do that AGAIN!" That poor haunted ride has been so neglected for so long that it became a lame embarrassment. A huge part of the improvements was just having the Winnie team go in, clean up, repair and LIGHT what they had. Now ALL the mechanical goodies in there WORK - many have been broken for so long that most people (Including the employees) didn't know those things were supposed to move. With the additions of all the extra scary props and very unexpected live actors - it's a real treat of a dark ride - just as it should be!
The Train ride was spectacular! Simply riding that little train around through the dark woods might have been scary enough - but they put a LOT of work into it! They have a recording of the spooky back story of Winnie - the former owner's daughter who died in the lake and is returning to find her lost love. There are all kinds of fun displays set up and live actors popping out of the most unexpected places.
You gotta go!
Might even be fun for a Family friendly Notta. Just say'n!
