Reflection Riding is not a place where you can usually camp. If anyone is interested in giving me 3 hours of volunteer time Sunday morning November 7, you are welcome to camp here Saturday night. You must provide your own tent. Caara Stoney and I will provide a free hearty breakfast (eggs, bacon, juice, coffee, fresh fruit) Sunday morning before the work begins. The work will consist of pulling weeds from along the edge of our upper pond, and possibly some raking. It should be fun. If you are interested in camping out Saturday night and volunteering Sunday morning, please RSVP by calling (423-322-7866) or emailing me. Just to be clear... the opportunity to camp is only available to folks who want to volunteer Sunday morning. Thanks!

this is the first part of the message...
ALL ARE INVITED!! Sierra Club, Cherokee Group STAR PARTY!! Saturday, November 6th, 8 pm at Reflection Riding.
Local astronomer Bobby Thompson will guide us through the early fall sky. Through telescopes we'll view Uranus and Jupiter, and also learn to recognize some of the constellations and names of the bright stars.
All ages welcome, bring your friends. Donations for this outing can be made to Reflection Riding. This will be rain or shine -- we will have an alternate star activity inside in case of clouds or rain! Small donation requested to be given to Reflection Riding. To register and details, contact Jeremy Gazaway at 423.619.6548 or gazawaypainting@gmail.com.

BIO of BOBBY THOMPSON: I became interested in astronomy at age 6, 66 years ago, when I saw my first “shooting star”. I was in the porch swing with my mom. I became a volunteer at Jones Observatory at 14. I did that until I joined the USAF, at age 20, for 4 years where I traveled to Middle East and Europe as radar tech. Came back to Jones and picked up where I left off as a volunteer and worked for IBM for 28 years. At Jones I taught telescope making and increase the membership of the Barnard Astronomical Soc. by 6 times and put Jones Observatory on the Chattanooga map with the help of Bob Elmore. After retiring from IBM, Joined the UTC Physics department for 9 years and rescued Jones Observatory from complete destruction. Retired from UTC to join the Walker County Science Center. I am now consultant and volunteer to the to the new planetarium there. I have been guest speaker and consultant to planetariums and astronomy clubs across the Southeast.
