You can call me and we'll go shoot something (either way) just to change the subject. When you're feeling weak. [grin]

I don't want to either but that extra 100+ bucks a month could come in handy.

There are a lot of things that smell amazing, I didn't notice until about a week after I quit.

It's been slightly over 2 years since I had my last cigarette. I ain't going to lie to you, I still get a craving for them. The cravings are just as bad today as the day after I quit. However I know that I cannot give in to the temptation and sneak me one or I'll be right back to where I was 2 1/2 years ago.
I may wait til I'm older and more broken down than I am now and take the habit back up when I'm 70.

Knowing its all in your head sometimes helps.. [grin]

I've been quit for over 3 years now but I know if I have one tomorrow I'll go buy me a pack, that helps me to stay quit, but in every dream I smoke a cigarette or two and wake up feeling guilty as hell.

I quit the day I learned my father had lung cancer; 18yrs ago now. It took a couple of months for all the nicotine etc to leach out of my system, & I had recurring smoking dreams during that time, nothing ever after. 'Course, it leaves room for new bad habits. Stay quit!

16 years since my last cigarette. Just up and quit cold turkey because I was going to be late for work if I stopped for some, and because I was feeling like shit. Haven't taken so much as a puff since.
/like Mikey, I still sometimes smoke in dreams.

We're supposed to be supporting stritcj's decision. Not telling him how hard it was for us... It isn't easy we know but how much its worth it we should be relating. I quit close to 20 years ago, Can't remember the last time I wanted one. (I detest the smell now, not so much "live" smoke but third hand)

BRAVO! You'll know you are a true non-smoker when you start noticing that cigarette smoke stinks. I giggle at my niece every time we get costumes back from a smoker. She who smoked for most of her adult life, will pull a face when handling a smoker's clothes and complain "This stuff REEKS!" As Bob said, you will start noticing how wonderful other things smell when your nose isn't deadened by the smoke.

I kept some Lifesavers and peanuts around for the first couple of weeks to help deal with cravings. It really helped.

I actually quit once 5 years ago. It was a lot easier then because I was unconscious and had a steady morphine drip

I used Chantix to help me. I cannot say if it really helped or if I was just ready to quit and not give into my cravings as I had always done before. I also used mint snuff. It has no tobacco or nicotine. I contains only chopped mint. Sorta of like a Skoal bandit but with mint rather than tobacco. I found these to really helped with the cravings and they are touted as the worlds longest lasting breath freshner, www.mintsnuff.com.

Bob, I think relating how hard it was helps prepare him for what to expect.
I quit when my son was born a little over 18 years ago. I chewed a lot of gum. It took me about a year before I quit craving and the stuff started to stink.
But, I could walk through the woods and hunt without huffing and puffing, and I bought myself a brand new motorcycle with what I saved. I also found out who my true friends were; they put up with me when I was in my grumpy mood and were still supportive.

My dad emptied all the ashtrays. He then washed and put them away in storage. He said the mental picture of starting clean helped him stay quit.

Congratulations. I am not a smoker and I've never had to experience that. The closest I've come is giving up Coca Cola (and I really do struggle with it - I'm on about my 4th time of giving them up). But, my real dad smoked & died when he was 47 (massive heart attack) and my mom smoked & died when she was 59 (cancer). My stepdad still smokes and is probably coughing up a lung as I'm typing.
I hope you're able to stay strong and stick to your determination to quit. If not only for yourself, but for the people who love you and would miss you if you were gone.
