I HAD to go out and into Red Bank tonight. By 10pm they had the Killer Hill on Ashland Terrace salted and sanded. So pretty much they cut a trail to Hixson early on.
GOOD JOB Now get rid of those damn cameras.

Such a hate on for cameras.
I love how quick Red Bank gets to work when it snows like this. Too bad my own rather nasty hill doesn't get salted/sanded. It's not a major thoroughfare though, more like a tiny closed circuit, so for those of us that live on these two roads the hill is just a nasty little thing to try getting off without wrecking.
That I've seen EPB and phone trucks get stuck at the bottom with their tailgate dug into the street and their front tires going up, back tires no longer touching the ground... well that might give you an idea of the angle and why it's a bit dicey if there's any snow or ice to contend with.

I actually like the cameras.
Red Bank has always, even going back into the 60s, been good about keeping main thoroughfares cleared during snow. Of course it is going to be difficult to keep roads like yours, WK, navigable when there is moisture and below freezing temps. I'd just park off the hill when icy weather is in the forecast.

I read somewhere that the camera's are under a three year contract that will be expensive to break.
The camera's and the speed vans are just more things we need to pay attention too. Some of us need to pay more attention when we're driving anyway.

Speed limits in Red Bank are reasonable. The length of time the lights stay yellow is reasonable. If you are going to speed you need to expect to get a ticket. If you run red lights you need to expect to get a ticket. Folks who cry about it when they do, even if it is a camera catching them, need to grow up or expect for me to call them a mamby pamby cry baby and throw a box of tissues at them.

I, for one, will stop shopping in Redbank if they remove the cameras.

Other than Beauty and the Beast, I am at a loss for where one would shop in Red Bank, unless of course they were shopping for a change of church...
Unlike some I have no worries about the cameras giving me tickets :-)

I'm with Grid. Aside from visiting Mz Scarlett what shopping is worth driving there for?

Well, you might be in the market to have a band instrument repaired or maybe you are in the mood for Japanese Hibachi without the theater. There is also this art gallery and a knick-knack shop where you might want to pick up a present for someone. A not so bad used book store is available and Red Bank Athletics will sell you a cup. I really like the fare at Dub's.
Then on the South end in White Oak you have a fairly large selection of businesses to choose from that includes restaurants, hardware stores, thrift shops, auto repair and more. You have a traffic light camera down there at Signal Mtn. Blvd and Dayton Blvd. Ready to catch you as you are turning in to Mojo Burritos.

If and when I move back to the area I will be looking to locate in Red Bank. It has the things one needs and everything else is close enough. Yoda, get your legs in shape to climb over that ridge and you would rarely have to burn up any gas.

What you saw with that cyclist and other car is what happens to me ALL THE TIME. This is what I kvetch about all the time as well. I could be walking, cycling, running, anything. Doesn't matter. There can be an entire empty lane available as you saw, doesn't matter. Rare is the driver that gives the space even when it's available.

The sad thing is that car probably never saw the cyclist.
Yes there is an ambulance "hub" just across from the police station.
Heck I've seen people "not see" a freaking fire truck...

Yoda, that road you would take over that ridge isn't all that bad as far as being mixed in with cars is concerned. While I was riding there most of the drivers were courteous enough to me while riding over the ridge. The problem is getting over the ridge without having a heart attack from the exertion. Even that, though, gets much better the more you do it. Even on Dayton Blvd most cars will move over. It's just those very few that won't that will get you. Since most traffic going through Red Bank now uses "Corridor J" Dayton Blvd. has become a very lightly traveled 5 lane. Because of that I think Red Bank ought to turn the entire right lane into a bike lane. I also think that they should be marketing themselves to active people who enjoy doing things outdoors. Maybe find a company like Campmor to open a retail store in the old Bi-Lo building at Dayton Blvd and Browntown Road.

I would be in heaven if they did that!
Yoda, I've walked Strega up and down that ridge. Justin's right, the drivers were very courteous. I did my part by trying to stay out of their way, they did theirs by slowing and swinging wide to pass when safe.

I saw a pickup yesterday with a big yellow cling on the tailgate that had giant letters saying 3 FEET with some arrows. Too bad it didn't really say bicycle in letters big enough for anyone to read, so I doubt it will do much good.
