So, where's the sale on car tires these days? I have one that's not just worn, it's completely smooth.

May not make a difference to your unique situation, but I've been warned by knowledgeable, neutral third parties that DTD has been known to sell tire stocks that have been sitting on shelves for up to several years.
YMMV - literally.

Uh, not ordering online tires to install on my own. Folks sometimes have DTD tires sent to the install shop. That said, I think that your avoidance of Internet deals is wise.

Call Reeces in Summerville, GA. They don't balance, though.

I've been told that Sam's offers decent deals. A friend very frugal just bought tires there.

Reese Tire is the absolute cheapest place around and afar.
Tire World in Red Bank is also a great place. I spent 6 years in every shop around and they're the only place in town that's on my trustworthy list.

Tire World, Red Bank. That's close. Close is good. Driving to Summerville on a bald tire, maybe not so smart. Waiting for internet deal shipping, not so good. Close and trustworthy is better than cheaper than dirt but relatively inaccessible.

Go to Steve Rays Midnight Oil and get you some Michelin Blems, tell him your Garys friend and he will cut you a good deal, or either he'll charge you extra.

I just got four new tires on my car at Quality Tire on Cherokee Blvd (Northshore). I've been dealing with them for years and have never had a single complaint. They are not a discount place, but they sell quality tires for a competitive price. And they are locally owned, which is always a bonus when I am spending money.

Quality Tire is the absolute worst place in town to get work done. I couldn't begin to count the times I have seen them rip people off. You might want to check to make sure they actually put new tires on your car, Gary!
Tires are one of those universal things that's hard to get screwed on when purchasing, so any shop can ultimately be used for the purchase of such. QT, though, is not a place that I would trust to do anything.

Sorry you've had a bad experience, but I've been dealing with them for well over a decade and not only have never once had bad service, have never known anyone else who's had bad service (until you chimed in).
The tires are new, exactly what I asked for, and were installed quickly and professionally. I recommend them without reservation.

I've never had a bad experience with them, Gary. Nor do I have any personal vendetta against them.
An old job put me in the position to see the inner-workings of many, many shops for nearly 6 years. Not to mention a year working for the Napa that was right next door(where the animal clinic is now). They are on the top of the list of rip-off places in town.
The problem with being a customer, Gary, is that you only see what you want to see when you frequent a shop every once in a blue moon. For most people, that's what, less then once or maybe twice a year? Even with your ten year time span, that's only a handful of "experiences". I put "experiences" in quotations because you go in, the counter guy smiles and say's "how may I help you", and you leave with good service. That's all you ever see and experience.
I personally saw and spoke with shops, shop employees, and owners daily, and often enough, several times daily. I've spent many an hour in the shop areas, in the offices, in front of shop computers, and on the phone with shops. I've seen the business practices and numbers from many places first hand. I've listened to many a stories from shop employees and even shop customers. I have personally seen things that you are simply not privy to. That is why I do not trust them and would never recommend them to anyone.
Now, I'm not saying that they have ripped you off and I'm certainly not saying that they rip off everyone... but I've seen more then enough from them to where I wouldn't let them put air in my tire let alone anything major. What I will say is that a person getting ripped off never knows that they're getting ripped off...
For what it's worth, I have a long list of shops that I would not recommend. very few are for the same reason as QT(rip-offs). But most are for simply not doing quality work, poor customer service, or over priced.
