Beware of EPB Fiber Optics Service
I switched over from Comcast a few months back, but now wish I had not! One day, all of a sudden we lost our picture! We could still hear audio, but not video. At the time figured it was the TV (46" LCD), so went to Best Buy and bought a new one. Got home, hooked it up, everything worked fine for about 10 mins. then BANG! The picture went out again! Still hear audio, but no picture! Not even the Setup Default Menu would appear! So now I called EPB because the only thing it could be causing it is the Cable Box. The repairman came out, said he never heard of that, but everything else checked out. They even checked all my electrical outlets and circuits...all normal. He took the old box and said someone would contact me after checking it out. In the mean time he gave me a new box, but I now have no TV to hook up and test it. So they came out with a test TV and everything seems ok now, BUT the problem is it seems obviouos to me that it was the box but EPB is saying that they cannot find anything wrong, so now it appears they are unwilling to reimburst me for my TV!!!!! Nice customer service, as my wife called to check on the status and the rep she was talking to hung up on her!!! Time to go back to Comcast and would warn others to watch out!!! Being that EPB Service is relatively new, this could be the tip of the Iceburg!

Since he has the skilz perhaps worm could explain how a signal can damage a LCD TV... I am not IEEE but don't think its possible for a video signal be it VGA or HiDef to damage a LCD TV. You could damage a CRT with too high of a frequency but I dont think that's possible with the LCD TVs.
I am not "pro" EPB but have worked with both EPB fiber and Comcast in a personal and commercial level. They both have flaws but EPB is, in my opinion, more apt to resolve a problem. (since the person you talk to isn't in india, might alone help a lot)

Oh, it's possible. Too much voltage, for instance. HDCP handshake is TTL nominal 5V. If the EPB box put out 10V, it could fry the input to the TV. Can't say that happened here, but a bad box could break a TV.

Worm,
Thanks for the info! That is really interesting to know that it is indeed possible....
At least now I have something to back it up, as things are not looking good as far as EPB taking any responsibility and offering any kind of monetary compensation.

I have internet and phone. Had a problem at first getting the switch done on phone from Comcast to EPB but no problems now. Fastest service I have had with any company in any town. So I say it's a plus. Runs 3 to 4 times faster than it guarantees. I check it ever so often. Now for Comcast, didn't have to many problems but it's been 4 months and still no check for the overpayment.

......... but it's been 4 months and still no check for the overpayment. Sounds about right...... be four hours late for their money and they shut you off. Before all is said and done expect the overpayment be used up as "disconnection fees"

Before all is said and done expect the overpayment be used up as "disconnection fees" Yeah, I overpaid on my last Comcast bill after switching to EPB and they still haven't sent me a refund. This was six months ago. In fact, they apparently kept billing me without my knowledge even after I cancelled and sent me a bill for over $400 and threatened me with collections. I sent them a copy of my cancellation receipt and told them to bugger off. I had cancelled my direct debit after paying my last bill so they wouldn't steal money from me, looks like it was a good idea. And I've had no problem whatsoever so far with EPB. Faster Internet, the same HD service and I'm paying about $50 less a month than I was with Comcast so I'm happy.

No one has ever contacted me to inquire whether there might be any other channels that I might prefer they offer in their lineup.
Except EPB.
