On the Hispanic section of Main Street, there is a bar called...
"El Pokar De Ases."
IS THIS A MEXICAN GAY BAR???
What does the name mean?

OK I think a photo of that sign would be cool. Could someone please post the address of this place? Or a landmark its close to? (like the fire hall, or OCI)

Turn off dodds on to main. Its only a few buildings down on the left. Its the building I thought was the cotton patch... [shrug] there is an old drive-in looking structure across the street.

The old drive in structure was the Cotton Patch. The building the sign goes with is the old Buds of Ridgedale, the original Buds in town. I enjoyed both places in the mid 70s, by the late 70s it was too dangerous of a place to even think about visiting and my lifestyle had changed.

Ah I "lived" in the brainerd rd bars but in the early 80s I think cotton patch was already gone by then.

A Cotton Patch Story for your Summer Enjoyment.
Early in my tenure I was called to a shooting at the Cotton Patch. This wasn't cause for alarm, because John Cotton was proficient with a framing hammer he used to dispatch troublemakers, and I figured that was what had happened.
I arrived to find a smoke-filled sedan containing four miscreants. These unlucky souls had been picking on an old drunkard parked next to them in his Chevy Van. Unknown to them, this old guy was a gunner's mate aboard none other than the venerable BB63 during Dubya-Dubya Two. That's the Mighty Mo' to the uninitiated. SIXTEEN-INCH RIFLES (that's Navy talk fer cannons)
Do any of you comic-book readers of the Sixties remember the pulp magazine ads for those carbide cannons you could buy through the mail? The ones that advertised "LOUD BLAST!" and "REALISTIC!"? Well, old Sailor Sam had one of these monsters, two-inch bore, pristine, primed, and ready in the back of his van.
Sam slid his scuppers open and DELIVERED one straight into the driver's window of these turd's sedan. I swear, the driver looked like Wile E. Coyote after one of his dynamite schemes goes awry. Hemorrhaging from the left ear, he was, and the other three stone deaf and blind as bats. A sad and sorry sight, to be sure. Even Cotton was impressed, and he didn't easily, either. Only because a projectile wasn't needed nor included were there no outright fatalities.
Sailor got jailed, but strangely enough none of the 'victims' ever appeared to prosecute.
Couldn't hear the phone ringing, I suppose.
