A 20-something friend on vacation in Paris today posted this little FB missive:
Michele is about 5'2" and I have no idea who her companion is.
You mess with American tourists at your peril.
In case you are wondering, "citizen's arrest" doesn't exist in France, but apparently a free lunch does when you intervene when you see a guy backhand his girlfriend at a restaurant and knock her off her chair. Kudos to my fellow yank, who calmly took off his coat and undid his cufflinks.
Sadly, my contribution was only to say, "tres mal! tres mal!" but the combined effort (more him than me) at least shook the restaurant staff out of their collective paralysis.
