Fall Opportunities for Mandolin Players and Students
- Intro to Mandolin class starts this Monday, October 10, at 6pm, and will run every Monday through November 14. This class starts at square one, and we will assume you know nothing at all about playing the mandolin, and give you all the basics you need to build upon and become a good player. Fee is $105, and you can register on our website.
- Mandolin 2 class meets every Monday at 7:30pm starting Oct 10. Here's where intermediate students can hone specific skills on the instrument and get challenged to push themselves to the next level of playing.
- Bill Monroe Fiddle Tunes class for intermediate fiddlers, taught by Owen Saunders for the next six Mondays (starting Oct 10) at 7:30pm. Classes last an hour and fifteen minutes, and the cost for the course is $105. You can sign up online by visiting chattanoogafolk.com.
I know you're probably wondering why I'd be writing about this fiddle class in an email specifically for mandolin players. This class meets at the same time as our Mandolin 2 class, and over the next six weeks, these classes will be coming together to work on these great tunes in one group so everyone can practice their skills on their instrument while also getting practice with playing with others. This is a brand new class we're offering, so if you're not sure if it's right for you and want to just see what it's like, please feel welcome to visit the first class before making your commitment to the 6 weeks.
- Tune Learning Session, led by Christie Burns, for the next six Thursdays at 7:30pm. In this mixed-instrument class, we'll work on at least one new tune every week without being limited to any one particular genre of music. Simply put, we're going to learn tunes that ROCK, and have a lot of fun while we're at it! This class does not require a 6-week commitment, so you're welcome to drop in this Thursday or any Thursday between now and November 17th.
- Monday Night Old Time Session, every Monday at the Market Street Tavern, starting around 7pm. This is an open community-run session for people who like to play old time fiddle tunes on fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, perhaps a dulcimer. Anyone is welcome to join us in our circle of musicians, or if you are just beginning to build your repertoire of old time tunes, you're welcome to sit just outside of the circle and play along and/or record the tunes we play to practice on your own at home. This is a good learning opportunity in a casual public setting, great food and great beer, kids welcome too.
