I can assure you he is NOT the founder of Glen-Gene deli. He bought many years ago from the founders and their first names were Glen and Gene, thus the name. They were long time Chattanooga businessmen. Trust me on this one.

First one, to my knowledge, was on Brainerd Road, I think in the strip center where Video Hut is now. Bought by brothers Bassam and Bassim (sp?) Issa sometime in the mid-80s from Glen & Gene who offered "The Rocket" sandwich, which is still on the menu. As more family members were "brought over" to manage, they opened a downtown location, then to Eastgate, then maybe a couple more. Bassim died a few years ago from cancer. Bassam, or "Sam", is a shrewd businessman who parlayed his deli money into several parcels of real estate along Gunbarrel Road, among other places. My meetings with him have always been very cordial. And, his steak-in-a-sack is still the best in town.

Is there some problem with someone, with the funds or financing, buying, "up every valuable piece of real estate in the area?"
I find it nice to know that some local entrepreneur made money by working his ass off in the restaurant business and then re-investing that hard-earned profit in his community.
And I so love a good "Steak-in-a-Sack!"
Kudos to the entire Issa family. True Americans!

He has more money than you and probably smells better--
--that makes him "The Enemy", I suppose....

Yes, indeed to the above! But, uh, have you seen his birth certificate?
