Program Provides Holiday Wishes for Military Heroes
November 4, 2011, Chattanooga, TN -The American Red Cross is partnering with Pitney Bowes this holiday season to honor our veterans and soldiers through the Holiday Mail for Heroes program. This annual event allows citizens to create a personalized card with holiday wishes for our military heroes.
This year's holiday card event will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Hamilton Place Mall from 10AM-3PM. Citizens are encouraged to share their holiday wishes with our service men and women by dropping off their own holiday card, or creating one the day of the event. Barbara's Hallmark located at 805 Market St, Chattanooga will be donating the cards. Tables will be setup at Center Court where participants can take a moment to show their appreciation for our military heroes.
In the past five years, Holiday Mail for Heroes has delivered millions of holiday cards to our veterans and soldiers. This program encourages Americans to recognize and thank the brave service men and women who have sacrificed for our country.
"We invite everyone to participate in this very special event. You can imagine what it means to our service members to know that people all across the country are thinking of them during the holidays," said Barbara Alexander, Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross CEO. "In the past this has been a wonderful family activity as well as something civic and church groups can participate in."
For those who are unable to attend the event on November 12, the local Red Cross chapter will serve as a drop off location for holiday cards. The deadline for submitting cards is December 9, 2011.
• Inside greeting should say "Dear Service Member or Veteran"
• Please do not use glitter or other loose materials when making the cards, as they are likely to fall
off and can be a medical issue for some
• Envelopes are not required as cards will be sorted and distributed by Red Cross once they are
submitted
Let someone know you care by sending "a touch of home" this holiday season.
