Our 53 yr old son that is a leg amputee, dialysis patient was taken to Erlanger Hospital by ambulance at 1:00am Wed morning in pain and very weak. . He was admitted to their Intermediate Care Unit. They took him to dialysis on Thurs. (He had not had treatment since Mon.) They told him they were looking for a rehab center for him.
They also sent him to dialysis on Friday. Upon returning from dialysis to his room (aprox 3:30pm) he was told by his nurse that his case manager had been looking for him. She came back to his room and told him he would be going to a facility on Sat.. At 6:02pm he called to ask if we could bring him up some clean clothes to be transported. I packed his gym bag to take on Sat morning. I called him back to tell him his sis could not bring them, but his Dad would. He said not to hurry the day had been changed, he wasn't going until Monday, 11/21.
At 1:01 am I received a call from Erlanger (waking me) that he was being discharged and on his way home. The ambulance crew was already there and ready. I said "you have got to be kidding." "it is 1:00am". We are senior citizens and already sleeping. She said he was ready to leave, I told her we would not have any way to get him to dialysis center on Monday. His father has bad back and 75 yrs old. We cannot load him in car anymore and he is too weak to get in by himself. We need to find him a facility that can help. She said he was to call us hours before to tell us he was being discharge. In truth, he was woke up at midnight and told he was being discharged. He told them he didn't know if we were home and he does not have key. (he was trying not to have to disturb us). Why could they not wait until a decent time on Sat morning?
I was very upset and told her I was in bed and the door was locked. She then said so you won't open door for son?
I told her I was going to call his sis to maybe figure something out with them.
Very rude person and would pause for a whole minute without saying anything. I didn't even know if I lost connection.
His sis called down there and finally got to talk to a nurse after being hung up on. They told her the same and that he was in transit. She was told she couldn't speak to Super because he was on another line. This was at 1:20 am. (This super finally called her at 4:00 am.) While talking to a nurse on his floor they laid the phone down instead of putting on hold and she could hear them laughing. She did not know what they were laughing at. She heard a nurse ask, "is she still on the line?" the phone was disconnected again. She called me back to tell me about the laughter.
At 2:23am they arrived and waited 9 minutes outside for Police Officer to arrive. They had called him and told him we did not want our son here. They needed his escort. When they brought our son in he said the EMT along with nurses had laughed at him about his predicament. (the same laughter his sis heard). While he was telling me this the EMT was shaking her head "no" behind him.
He had asked the hosp to get him another team to bring him home because of him being upset with these two.
It took the two EMTs and the officer about 10 minutes to just get him into his chair. The officer was very kind and we appreciate that.. After they left he fell onto his bed and had a terrible time getting his self turned around. He is now in great pain because of back spasms.
I have tried to keep this short but yet wanted to document the time of events.
If anyone knows where we can go from here to get help, please let us know, thank you.
