Justify tail-gating.
In other words, if you do it, why do you do it and what good does it do?
I'm talking about following too closely in a car; not partying.

Don't know why people do it, but I just had a semi way too close to me on my way home from the barn. Considering how hard they are to stop, I really did NOT appreciate that.

There is no justification for tail-gaiting. It's especially wrong when you're already going over the speed limit.

The "thought" I think is to make them understand they are IN THE DAMN WAY and BLOCKING TRAFFIC flow, but I think it only makes them slow down.
Tailgating in the right hand lane is a good way to get a ticket.

I think that is the mentality too, Bob. Yeah, I usually slow down. Actually I start with tapping my brakes as a hint. If that doesn't back them off, I slow down. Gotta find a balance though, the kind of person that will tailgate that way is the kind of person prone to road rage.

years ago, I was commuting to cleveland. The weather was really bad but I was driving a 4x4 Taho so I went in anyway. Nobody else did. I was driving back and there was this little truck right on my butt. I normally wouldn't mind but it was icy. When he finally did pass me I flipped him off.
He went nuts, gonna kick my butt he was so I pulled over into the icy-snowcovered shoulder, he did too. So I pulled over just a little more where the ground sloped down, he did too. I stopped. Just as he got out of his little truck I put my chevy in 4 wheel and eased back out onto the highway. Last thing I saw in my mirror was him sliding down that little hill...

I have never, and probably will never, understand how some neanderthal figures that tailgating me will get the vehicle ahead of me moving faster.
Even better are the asshats that manage to get around you only to come to a curve and jump all over their brakes all the way through the curve. I was lucky, my Dad who ran booze from Canada to the States during Prohibition, taught me to brake before the curve then accelerate or decelerate through the curve.
