I know laws on gun sales, especially handgun sales, vary from state to state. What do you have to do to sell a handgun in Tennessee, person to person?

Take money give gun. That is it by the law. I would write a receipt for it and have 2 copies one for your record and one for the others. For a small fee you can go through one of the local gun stores and have them fill out the paperwork and have a background check done to ensure that the person is not prohibited from owning a firearm. This would be best if you are selling to someone you do not know.

what osrd said pretty much sums it up.
if the person lives outside of TN, or does not reside in the same state as you, you then by law, must go through an FFL dealer... one in your state, and then they transfer the pistol to another dealer in the buyers state, all done for a fee.

Both of you have to be at least 18 yrs old and Tennessee residents. Before somebody pipes up and says "no you have to be 21 to buy a handgun" that only applies if you buy it from an FFL.

I was wrong on my above post, thanks Yoda. you do not need two FFL dealers to purchuse a handgun from out of state. you can use two dealers if you want to, but you do not have to. you would really only need one that is within your state.
