City Seeks Injunction to Padlock ChurchWill More Religious Liberties be Curtailed? The city took steps Wednesday to shut down a downtown church and its youth events after at least nine people were wounded in a Christmas Eve shooting. Chattanooga attorneys filed paperwork in Hamilton County Circuit Court seeking an injunction to padlock the Mosaic Arts Venue at 412 Market St. The building is home to the Mosaic church and Club Fathom, an urban youth outreach program. The filing states that the establishment is a public nuisance and lists a series of shootings and assaults at the location since 2006. The complaint says the venue has a history of "quarreling, drunkenness, fighting and other breaches of peace." The city is trying to stop a New Year's Eve party set for Saturday. ( Continued)

So someone waits outside a club and shoots at people when they leave, the owner will be held responsible?
yeah I understand..... [shrug]
Could it be that fathom is actually reaching people? could that be why the gangs are shooting at them?

I've been involved with some troubled youth and the bad one's can really put you at risk when you do what it really takes to reach them. I think Fathom and the Mosaic Church may have made some mistakes but I also think it is very possible that they are now facing real persecution from local government because they are showing that there really is a gang problem in downtown Chattanooga and city officials don't want to admit that to be the case.

Good thread. An extra contingent of police at closing time may be more appropriate than a padlock. i.e Riverbend? Even so, the religious defense appears to be a little thin.

Wonder what the cost difference to the city would be.. a) pay the city attorney to file suit to close the place for one night or b) pay a hand full of off duty police to "supervise" the area at closing. (er curfew)

Tell me why the kids are not at home by 9 p.m. or even earlier given the trouble they can get into at night.
No, I'm not asking for a curfew or a law. I *am* asking parents to control their children.

It would be nice if the parents would control their children but if they don't then the community has to step in. Mosaic Church seems to be trying to do that. It looks like Littlefield is going all out in his persecution of this Church.

Yoda, these kids have no parents. Not in the way you or I think.
They join gangs for the purpose of belonging to a family that cares for them.
No I don't know a lot about this subject but I do know that cities that admit they have a gang problem have taken steps to combat said problem by giving the youth something else to do.
