Erlanger trustees today voted 5-4 to approve a $728,000 severance package for outgoing CEO Jim Brexler this morning. The vote came less than a month after trustees voted 4-4 against the same severance package. The hospital announced Brexler's retirement in November. In December, the board approved a resolution to accept Brexler's resignation. Read more: timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jan/09/erlanger-board-approves-severance-package-jim-brex/

The fix was in from the start. And the administrators (Brexler appointed superfluous senior VPs) who are as responsible as Brexler are getting a pass. If Little Chicago Watch really wants to be of service to the community, they'd dial back their personal crusade against Littlefield and focus on the corruption, incompetence and political chicanery that is so endemic in local Boards of Directors (Erlanger, CHA, Library, school, Multi-ethnic Council, etc.).

The "fix" was a contract agreed upon prior to Brexler starting at Erlanger. If they hadn't honored it, they would've had a lawsuit on their hands, like with another former CEO. Which senior VPs are superfluous? I'm curious to know. I know there's one VP that may be looking over his shoulder...a few may probably be finding new employment soon, anyhow.

There was due cause to fire Brexler. RE: VPs, several (not to be named here) were as greedy and culpable as Brexler. All should be asked to submit letters of resignation. BTW, credible sources indicate Littlefield bragged that he did not repalce a Board member to ensure Brexler would get severance.
