Scottie Mayfield apologized to U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann "and to the voters" after his 33-year-old son confessed to slashing a Fleischmann staffer's tire at a Mayfield campaign event. "I am truly sorry and embarrassed," wrote Mayfield, who's challenging Fleischmann in Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District Republican primary. "This kind of activity has no place in campaigns and we are regretful that it happened." The Mayfield campaign initially denied having anything to do with the incident, and the well-known dairy executive issued a public apology at the same time the Kingston Police Department on Thursday charged his son with a misdemeanor -- two facts Fleischmann campaign spokesman Jordan Powell cited in dismissing Scottie Mayfield's atonement as "politically motivated." "Is he apologizing because he's sorry or because his son got caught?" Powell said. www.wrcbtv.com/story/17840998/scottie-mayfield-apologizes-after-son-admits-slashing-tire

33 and slashing tires? I've got to wonder about this man's raising.

33 and slashing tires? I've got to wonder about this man's raising. Too much ice cream. He'll be ok once the sugar buzz wears off.

Here's an idea. Have "Mikey" Mayfield and "Westy" Wamp square off in a boxing match and the winner gets the right to challenge Chucky for the 3rd district GOP nomination. I mean, Westy has the experience from his scuffle during the Haslam/Wamp Governor's race. I'd pay to see it.

I think Mayfield is done.
He can't separate himself policy wise from Chucky.
He can't say what he wants to do when he gets there.
Now, despite being fantastically wealthy, he shows that he can't do better than to raise a thug son.
I was hoping that Mr. Mayfield would be a guy I could possibly vote for because he obviously wasn't running just to go up there and get rich like Chucky and Wamp. That hope has faded.

I think his son was the last straw.

"I think Mayfield is done."
"I think his son was the last straw. "
Solid observations. However, 1. Public memory is short. 2. It's a long time until the primary. 3. Mr. Ice Cream still carries a lot of clout in his neck of the woods. 4. Stranger things have happened, i.e. Chucky in 2010.

I think his son was the last straw. Well said, because he was and IS a straw candidate
