I've had a few conversations with professionals in this line of work, one who was involved in bidding on this job and lost. Everyone of them have said this bid is a reasonable bid for the extents of the work involved.

That is good to know. Thanks for sharing. If the City paid $214k in 2005, they should of upgraded the existing site.

The existing site could not be upgraded to give the functionality that was required without a much higher cost.
It seems to me that you believe that websites are cheap. They can be if you are running one for yourself as a hobby and you don't have to interface it to an existing IT infrastructure to make existing data available to the website users. There is much more to building a website for a city the size of Chattanooga than throwing Wordpress or Drupal up on a $7.99/mo webserver.

No, $85/hr is cheap. I would be billing for much more than that. But thanks for linking to that old thread. It explains a lot and will keep me from repeating myself.

Incorrect that is a cheap price. I know many that charge over $100 hr to do this type of work. JT is correct there is much more that goes on when you have to interface with existing systems. What looks like a simple change to a user can be a very complex change on the back end. I do this type of work every day and have user always asking "What is taking so long it was a simple change", I have to explain to them that it is not a simple change on the back end. They have NO clue.

Osrb. Wonderful. Please advise, Little Chicago Watch. We need a IT pro for our watch group web, a complete redesign. LCW started as a wordpress Woo Theme. Now, I hate it, but our members think we cannot afford a pro. Can we afford a pro? Many people call themselves pros. I hired someone for a business website along time ago, and I did a better job than they did. www.LittleChicagoWatch.com Your thoughts please.

So Littlefield did something right for once? Surely someone else made this decision.

I wont pretend to know what goes on behind the scenes for something that big, all I know is that's a crap-load of cash for an air conditioned job.

JC, you start running close to deadlines on a job like that and see whether it feels air conditioned or not.

Based upon Excalibur research, I don't believe Mark Keil is so great. One source vendor, and bypass bids, BS.
