My mom bought a samsung 40" 1080p TV. She has comcast.
She only has the "step up from basic" package so I thought she wouldn't need a cable box.
we plugged it up to the cable and only got the "basic" stations but they looked amazing.
I finally realized we needed to connect the cable box and now she can see all the channels she used to but the quality is much poorer. its because she isn't paying comcast for HD.
Now my question. If she switches to EPB with either the doesn't need a cable box plan or the next plan up, will she get HD or close to HD quality?

She won't get HD and it won't look like HD but she also won't need a box to get 2-98 or whatever that is. Only way around it is to get a box and pay for the HD service.

You nwill have a small loss in quality for every split and device you run from one cable. Shouldn't be that noticeable though. Sounds like you need a new box if it's reducing quality that bad.
Don't run any other boxes or cable modems off of the cable going to your tv/box. Unhook pic in pic. Use quality Monster cables from your box to tv (even without HD). And use a signal booster if need be.

HD is a pay option with EPB I think one of the dish services include it.
