If you were Iran, wouldn't you feel the need to acquire nuclear weapons to defend yourself from the US and Israel?

If you were Iran, wouldn't you feel the need to acquire nuclear weapons to defend yourself from the US and Israel? Of course. But then if I was an asshole I would feel the need to heavily arm myself also for pretty much the same reason.

Each black dot is a US military base. They'll lash out eventually, and we'll say it was unprovoked.

Israel and the US already have plenty nukes Both the US and Israel frequently openly threaten Iran. The US is actively aggressive toward Iran, at the very least flying spy missions in their airspace. Since Romney wants to beef up the US military and thinks the US is still at war with the Soviets, if he gets elected then openly declaring war in Iran does not seem unlikely. Just saying - the harder the US and Israel push to get Iran to abandon their nuclear program, the more it seems Iran would feel the need to get "The Bomb".

Who spends more, as a proportion of their GDP, on their military, the US or Iraq?

Do you mean Iran? At this point I fear that Iraq's military budget is just part of ours.

Who spends more, as a proportion of their GDP, on their military, the US or Iraq? I don't know. Your point? Can anyone really spend enough to defend themselves from the US when the US spends more on military than all other nations combined?

Do you mean Iran? At this point I fear that Iraq's military budget is just part of ours. I meant Iran but looking back at the data I have it was Iraq's spending I was actually seeing. The US is tenth in military spending compared to GDP at 4.7%. Iraq is ninth with 5.4%. Eritrea comes in first with 20.9%, followed by Saudi Arabia - 11.4%, Oman - 9.7%, UAE - 7.3% with Israel in fifth place with 6.3%. Chad, Jordan and Georgia place 6, 7 and 8. Iran places 69th with 1.8% of its GDP going to the military.

And that has what to do with the cost of eggs in Pakistan?
I think it is pretty clear that the Constitution supports a "defensive" military, not the biggest in the world ready to handle multple invasions and military occupations at once. What we have now is nothing more than Big Government funded by your tax dollars and lubricated with the blood of our young.
Given the juggernaut that might come their way, I would think that any country not in the best graces of the US would be wise to try to acquire NBC weapons.

Well, Pakistan places 38th on the list, above India at 44th. Pakistan spends 2.8% of its GDP on its military. I'm sure that eggs could be cheaper in Pakistan if they spent some of this money on poultry production rather than the military.

Chemical weapons are cheaper than nuclear weapons and just as scary!
Maybe someone can sell Iran some sarin or phosgene cheap. Then they could focus on the energy side of nuclear.
