Millions of people across the country have been in a near panic on news that Twinkies may be going away forever. That panic, however, may be a bit premature (much to the chagrin of the eBay bidders offering way too much money for boxes of the snack cakes). First, a federal bankruptcy court judge has delayed plans by Hostess Brands to liquidate and sell off its assets. This has sent management and the labor unions back to the negotiating table. Seocnd, it turns out while American store shelves have been stripped bare of Twinkies and Cupcakes, Canadians have no shortages of the snack cakes. For the simple reason that Canada’s largest dairy processor, Saputo, has the trademark and brand rights to Hostess CupCakes and Hostess Twinkies in the country and manufactures the products themselves.
