Don't know if most people are aware but you can get your income tax return done free and e-filed at one of the Urban League sponsored VITAs sites around Chattanooga. The restrictions are, your income has to be less than $51,000 and you need to have picture ID, social security cards for any dependents you may be claiming.

We might go that route. Last year I sold a low-rent apartment building that I had inherited and went to H&R Block. They charged a fortune which unfortunately we cannot afford this year. Really couldn't afford it last year either but didn't know what else to do.
Also TaxACT online could be an option. All forms are free, not just the simple ones, and people I trust say it's pretty easy.

There are a few things they can't (not allowed) do, rental income, sch c with over 10K of expenses or a loss. Other than those items there are people there that can take care of you. Some sites even work by appointment. Many of the preparers are former H&R or Jackson Hewitt employees doing volunteer work.
