Wayne and I recently had dinner at the Seoul Korean Restaurant located in Perimeter Place at the intersection of Lee Highway and Highway 153. They haven’t been open very long, but were fairly busy on the Saturday evening we were there. The restaurant is quite nice with earth tones and a pleasant setting. The owner and servers were all very friend and welcoming. All food is homemade. The menu, to us, needs a bit more description. Yes, I realize it is a Korean and Vietnamese restaurant, but since it is in Chattanooga, most people don’t speak the language, and need to know what the menu is offering. Everything is written in either Korean or Vietnamese, with short definitions beneath. As an example, one item on the menu is Seafood with vegetable stew. When I asked about it I was told it would feed four people! Yikes! Maybe it says that on the menu, but not so I could read it. We decided to start off with an Appetizer Sampler platter ($6.95) to get an idea of the different offerings. Also, from what I had heard prior to going, the meal is served with kim chee, conventional miso soup and hot toasted barley or corn tea. We did have kim chee, but did not have miso soup nor did we have corn tea. I believe we had the barley. There was one other dish, but neither of us had any idea what it might have been. Of course, this wasn’t on the menu, or we would definitely have asked for the soup. www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_118972.asp

I ate supper there last night. It was DELICIOUS!!! THe kimchees were excellent (5 or 6 different kinds). I ordered a "safe" dish ---one that's HOT (no salmonella) and a little SPICY: yukgaejong which in rough translation means "spicy beef soup." I recommend it. I will be returning to sample the other dishes....bulgoki in particular. This is Korean barbecue beef that you roll into larg lettuce leaves with spicy sauce and rice....kind of like a lettuce taco. I am very happy that a Korean restaurant is back in town!

LR, You sound very familiar with Korean cuisine. Is there a story behind your familiarity? (Once again, I find you eating GOOD healthy food!)
Just curious...

I was staioned in Korea for a year while serving in the US ARMY...Tongduchon. This is when I fell in love with the country and it's people (and it's FOOD).
I returned as a summer missionary and lived in an orphanage for 2-3 months while helping to raise enough money/donations to get a new home built for the 80-90 orphans. Happily, we were very successful in our efforts and a brand new building was constructed/completed about 11 months after I returned to the US for the second time.
Orphanage food allows one to truly appreciate healthy (and not-so-healthy) cuisine...I lost nearly 90 pounds while living at the orphanage and had health issues for nearly a year upon leaving. The experience caused me to "over-compensate" on caloric intake for several years thereafter, which has propelled me into the new "healthier" diet. No fad diet...more of a lifestyle change.
Thanks for noticing.
