ATLANTA (AP) A Superior Court jury in Atlanta convicted a vegan couple of murder and cruelty to children Wednesday in the death of their six-week old, who was fed a diet largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice. 27-year-old Jade Sanders and 31-year-old and Lamont Thomas will receive automatic life sentences for starving the boy, who weighed just 3.5 pounds when he died. Defense lawyers said the first-time parents did the best they could while adhering to the lifestyle of vegans, who typically use no animal products. They said Sanders and Thomas did not realize the baby, who was born at home, was in danger until minutes before he died. But prosecutor Mike Carlson told the jury yesterday during closing arguments that they are "baby killers." wsbradio.com/news/050207vegan.htmlI added the emphasis to show just how fucking stupid these people were. They deserve not just life in prison, but a diet "largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice" until the wither away from starvation themselves. "(Vegans) are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It’s healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I’ve worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold." -- Tony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential

What rock have these people just crawled out from under that they didn't understand that a six week old baby weighing just 3.5 pounds is not normal??? The baby was obviously not premature as it was at home with the parents.
I'm not trying to knock anyone's lifestyle but I'm here to tell you that I don't believe that being vegan is healthy at all. My brother in law is vegan and he just does not look well. Yeah, he runs marathons and such but he does not look what I would consider healthy.

Why wasn't she breastfeeding? Human milk is made for human babies. It's totally vegan.
Somebody hold my purse while I forcefeed animal products into the mouths of these two deficient reproducers.

Something tells me the prison kitchen isn't going to cater to these idiots' whims once they get them behind bars.

I would happily cut the throats of both of these worthless pieces of shit and feast on filets I cut right off their vegan bones.
I bet their meat is TENDER.

All I can say is that this one sounds like evolution in action.

Agreed. Too bad it was a child that starved and not the parents before they were able to breed.
Perhaps the mother wasn't able to produce milk due to the diet she kept(?). Don't know.
But I suspect that we humans didn't get canine teeth from hunting down herds of free range eggplants.

I've heard that the whole "vegan defense" was made up out of thin air by the defense attorney as a desperate attempt to hide the fact that his clients were sick, demented infant murderers.
The fact that the jury recommended life sentences for both of the parents shows that they didn't buy the vegan crap for a second.

They said Sanders and Thomas did not realize the baby, who was born at home, was in danger until minutes before he died. Yeah, because 3 and a 1/2 pounds is normal for a six week old.. Did they not take the baby to any doctors since he was born? Geez.... What's up w/ all these idiots getting their kids killed?...

Well, at least as a 'Vegan' they're not as likely to ROAST their child.
(I hope their family reads this, and takes Comfort.)

Vegans Sentenced for Starving Their Baby May 9 01:13 PM US/Eastern
By GREG BLUESTEIN Associated Press Writer ATLANTA (AP) - A vegan couple were sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the death of their malnourished 6-week-old baby boy, who was fed a diet largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice. Superior Court Judge L.A. McConnell imposed the mandatory sentences on Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31. Their son, Crown Shakur, weighed just 3 1/2 pounds when he died of starvation on April 25, 2004. The couple were found guilty May 2 of malice murder, felony murder, involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children. A jury deliberated about seven hours before returning the guilty verdicts. Defense lawyers said the first-time parents did the best they could while adhering to the lifestyle of vegans, who typically use no animal products. They said Sanders and Thomas did not realize the baby, who was born at home, was in danger until minutes before he died.

I am very glad the jury didn't buy into this BS!! What a crock... Hope they enjoy that food in prison!

Christ! I want to respond to this, but I don't even know where to begin.
If these retards are so hippy-dippy that they have to be vegan AND avoid ALL medical assistance, do some Goddamn research. They get no sympathy from me because they are "first-time parents." That's all the more reason to have assistance or get educated.
I'm both astounded and disgusted.

If they declare that their veganism is their religion the prison will have to cater to their diet.
It's the stupid ass law!

Heh...I'm sure the 'man' in the relationship will get a steady diet of meat no matter if he wants it or not.
I hope the nutball bitch has a taste for tuna...

I do not believe the prison system recognizes "veganism" as a religion.

Either way, since when is prison food gourmet fare? The stuff they get in that cafeteria may have them begging for burgers after a month or two! Like everybody else...
