Harvey has been gone 5 months now.I waited for one to find me, but I think I need another plan. I have a friend who has a yorkshire terrier that I saw today. The size and temperment is perfect. I also need a small fenced area connected to my deck with access to the yard below the deck. Any advice or offers?I would pay for the fence, of course. If there is a polybred small dog somewhere, I would be interested. I sure miss a dog...

Please check the local pound, I have found the best dogs there, I have had 4 dogs so far and my last one I got is the smartest dog I have ever had. He knew he got a home he was so proud he was awesome he held his head so high like he was telling everyone that he got a home, he learn every trick in 10 min. Please save one of those sweet, sweet babies. You can also find pure breeds there, please just check it out.;

I'd agree w/ Laci. I'd get one from the pound if at all possible. The family dog was gotten at a pound and it's the best dog ever

Sadly (?) You can't normally find small dogs at the pound. Those cray "Malteeze Rescue" people have a habit of scooping up any little dog that anyone might actually want. Then you have to PAY them an "Adoption fee" of over $100. While I understand that these people think they are doing a 'great service', it sort of ticked me off when my son wanted a cute little lap dog and we were told that they would send over a representative to INSPECT MY HOUSE to see if I was "Good enough" to have a dog. I hung up on the woman. I found a Jack Russel Terrier at the pound. I guess that bred is "unexeptable" to snoody people.
---Pardon - I'm typing befor coffee again.

Harvey was MIA a few years ago, and Marvell and I went to the pound just in case he was there. There were so many wonderful animals! One, maybe a doberman, stretched his paw out of his cage and touched my shoulder. I wish I had taken him.

One of my good friends found an adorable small dog at the pound. She is a Chihauhau (sp?)/Pomeranian mix (I think) and is the sweetest dog.
Good luck in your search Babs!

We rescued a Rotty before it entered the pound one day as we were leaving. He is the most wonderful, sweet animal, and in the two years we have had him I have never seen anything in his temperment to make me regret saving him. The man surrendering him had just found out their landlord had sold the house they were renting and he and his family were having to move into an apartment. He kept in touch for several months, and came to visit once, but he was just happy to know his pup would be in a good home. He is now 2 1/2 years old, and the sweetest animal. Now, if we could only convince him he is not a lap dog that would be very cool.

Barbara
call the emergency vet hospital on Amnicola as well. We found Clifford there. He was being treated and then was going to humane society so we just cut out the middle man.

Is he a big red dog? no, he is a 3 tone 11# jack russel that thinks he is a great dane. He even growls in his sleep. We name all of our dogs after my husbands family. Clifford was his great uncle, Floyd was his grandfather, hazel (kitty's real name) his grandmother. It cracks his 90 year old grandmother up when he is talking of our pets to her and they are all her dead relatives.

I, too, found Exhalted Happiness in Adoption, but I was breed (& gender) specific in my wait. It may take more than five months, but you will see a Sign when the time is right. Mine, specifically, said 'Two Chocolate Labs Looking For a Good Home.'
As for your Yorkie pick? They are the ONLY Diminutive Dogs on the Approved List. I encountered one at a law office outside of Paris TN last week (long story, but I got things HANDLED for the local constabulary, S.S.P.B.A. in da house, WHOOT!) and I took a rare and immediate liking to it.
Neatly trimmed was a plus, but mostly: No Offensive Nipping at Ankles, NO Barking, and Pleasant Breath.
It was a first, I must say; Adopt On. He/She will find You.

I saw a really cute wire haired terrier mix on WRBC's web site-Paul's Pets- or something like that. Her name is Ginger and she is at the humane society. I also picked up a copy of Critter today, and there are several promising ones.

I looked at Tank's photos tonight. Marvell pulled up the link and told me that he was ugly, but cute and maybe Harvey's size. Tank looks like a sweet dog, but how big is he? Harvey was about 40 lbs, and was hard for me to walk if he pulled on his leash. Do you know how Tank does with cats? Mine would be fine with him...they're used to them. I don't know how to delicately ask this, but how does Tank do with his bathroom habits. Until I can get a fenced area, he would need to stay in the house with bathroom breaks. I've got some neighbors who don't like running amuck dogs, and I wouldn't ever want another dog hit by a car or running off with a pack.

I had an ancient cat that finally couldn't walk..had a stroke or something. I loved him so much and we cried when he had to be put down. His name was Tucker. This was several years ago. He's in one of the urns in my china cabinet.

Don't forget Pet Placement in Red Bank. They are a no kill facility and they keep the animals until they are adopted. I adopted the furry love of my life there....they don't charge outrageous adoption fees but they are careful about who the adopt to. No home inspections but some requirements like a fence or live in the country away from roads for some dogs. They also have a website or can be viewed on Petfinder.com

I called a lady last week who had a corgie and dachsand mix. She said that she already had found a home. She called Marvell back yesterday and said she had changed her mind and wanted to bring him to my house Sat. am. She and her husband just didn't have time for him and had had him 2 years. His name is Vegas, but we promised the grandchildren the name would be Bobby or Polly, depending. This isn't a sure thing-I think she's pretty picky and is interviewing.

Caterer, I'm afraid he's too big and needs more room than what I can provide. He's a lucky dog to have found you!

The very nice lady brought the dog over today. She's a very sweet short haired brown dog. Hopped right on the sofa next to Marvell and me. She checked out the house and really liked looking out the glass back door on the deck where some kitties were. The owner is very particular and had promised some older man with two poodles that she would bring the dog by. She's sceptible about him, so it looks like we may have her tomorrow. We will call her Polly. Pictures posted soon!
