Just wondered if we have anyone on the Forum who knows anything about TV repair? My large screen started acting up last night and I'd like to find someone who can help me either repair it or give me some guidance on what needs to be done to repair it. The reds and blues are all out of alignment. Thanks!!

Ouch! I fiddled with my old TV forever, and never got it 100%. Calibration is usually a $200 or so job, from what I hear. Try checking AVS Forums (google for it) and you might get lucky with some info.

dabone has been known to dabble in the TV repair arts...but I don't know what you can bribe him with now that he's married...

That sounds like a convergence problem, and there should be an option on your menu to adjust it. If not, contact Hals Electronic Service located on HWY 58. PH# 423-899-9939. I have used him several times and i think he is the most honest repair man in town. He worked on my big screen a few years ago and even came to my house to fix it.

It's a Phillips 55PP9352. It is a big screen and yes, it is a convergence problem, but it's apparently gone so far out of kilter, that fixing it from the menu isn't possible.
Just curious, what did Hal charge for the house call? Philips tells me the only authorized service center is in South Pittsburg, but I'm not hauling it to them.

That particular TV was under warranty at the time. I cant say for sure what the price would have been. He is a really nice guy though. I actually had to call him again about a month ago on the same TV. It got a mind of its own and would turn off by itself and change menu settings. Turns out the function buttons on the front were bad. He told me how to get to it to unplug it and it works fine now...i just have to do everything with the remote. I am taking another one to him today. The tuner has gone bad and he is replacing it for me.

Honor...any luck getting the TV fixed? Called Hal's, but he doesn't work on Philips equipment. But he kindly gave me the name of another service who does, Harvey's. He's coming tomorrow to look at it, as Mom wants to get it fixed before our company gets here this weekend. When I described the problem over the phone, he told me that it sounded like a couple of the chips had gone bad, but he'll look at it and let me know.

Honor...any luck getting the TV fixed? hoofhearted, just thought I'd let you know, the TV is fixed. Mr. Harvey came last week and replaced the IC chips in it, then it would not stay on, so he took the whole board section home with him, and worked on it over the weekend. Finally called me today and had discovered that one of the ribbon cables had apparently gotten damaged and that was what was causing the TV not to stay on. Came back this evening and put it all back together and got the colors all adjusted. Didn't charge me any more than what he had originally quoted me, so I'm very pleased with the work.
