Police Fatalities Rise 13% In 2011 The number of law enforcement officers killed by firearms made 2011 a remarkably deadly year in an era that's presenting greater challenges to officers with an already hazardous job. Across the nation, 173 officers were killed in the line of duty during 2011, a 13% increase from the 153 duty deaths in 2010. That year marked an 8.5% increase from the 141 officers killed in 2009, according to data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). For the first time in 14 years, the number of officers killed by gunfire (68) surpassed the number killed in traffic-related accidents (64). The rise in gunfire fatalities is likely a result of police manpower shortages caused by police layoffs, downsized training budgets, and increasingly determined violent criminals, said Craig Floyd, NLEOMF's chairman and chief executive. "Perhaps the most alarming part of the story is, if you go back two years, we had been on the heels of a two-year decline in law enforcement fatalities," Floyd told POLICE Magazine. "In 2009, we saw the lowest fatality number in 50 years." www.policemag.com/Channel/Patrol/News/2011/12/28/Police-Fatalities-Rise-13-In-2011.aspx?ref=BreakingNews-20111228&utm_source=Email&utm_medium=Enewsletter

My father-in-law had a .30 Carbine. Good shooting little gun. I think it was a surplus WWII weapon as it was made by Singer. yeah, that would be a WWII manufacture. None were made after WWII for the U.S. military, and there were TONS of them made. and there are so many little differences they are a collectors dream. I have one made by Winchester in 1944. which has the adj. rear sight & bayonet. with cheap ball ammo its a sweet shooter & dead on for a B27 target at 100yrds. I do wish the ammo was cheaper & more available than it is...

Thompson/Center Fire Storm Muzzleloader The Fire Storm combines traditional functionality with modern components and performance. By Paul Rackley, Associate Online Shooting Editor The arguments over flintlock or percussion cap, traditional or inline have existed for years, with few people changing their minds, even as laws have changed to allow modern muzzleloaders to be used in more places. Traditionalists believe flintlock or percussion cap muzzleloading rifles and blackpowder is the only fair way (they even argue among themselves about which is better), while inline enthusiasts claim their rifles are just muzzleloaders that shoot cleaner and more accurately. Neither side seems willing to change. One reason many hunters use more modern muzzleloaders is because they’re compatible with blackpowder substitutes such as Pyrodex and Triple Seven, which burn cleaner and come in both powder and preformed pellets. Blackpowder is dirty and very corrosive, requiring traditional shooters to take extreme care to prevent rust from forming on their muzzleloaders. Thompson/Center may have changed all that with the Fire Storm, a traditional-style muzzleloader that can shoot blackpowder substitutes, combining old-style shooting with easy cleaning www.americanrifleman.org/articles/t-c-fire-storm-muzzleloader-review/

Virginia Tech: Police Officer, 1 Other Killed BLACKSBURG, Virginia (AP) — A gunman killed a police officer and another person after a traffic stop Thursday on the campus of Virginia Tech, the school said, and students and faculty were told to stay inside university buildings as police searched for the suspect. It was the first shooting on campus since 33 people were killed in 2007 in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The school said a police officer pulled someone over for a traffic stop and was shot and killed. The shooter ran toward a nearby parking lot, where a second person was found dead. It was not immediately clear if that person was also shot to death www.lawofficer.com/article/news/reports-shots-fired-virginia-t

Top Shot Winner Becomes U.S. CitizenOn McChord AFB, Iain Harrison swore allegiance to the United States of America.By Iain Harrison Just over 20 years ago, I hopped off a British military aircraft at McChord AFB in Washington, and boarded a bus to Ft. Lewis. At the time, I was accompanying my platoon on a training exercise, as a means of exchanging tactics with our American counterparts, and it was my first visit to the United States while in uniform. Since then, a lot of water has passed under the bridge. In 1997, politicians in the country of my birth chose to vilify law-abiding gun owners as a means to appease the press and get themselves re-elected. As a result of the legislation passed, all legitimate handgun owners were forced to hand over legally held pistols and revolvers, or face up to 10 years in jail. There were a fair number of Brits who, rather than live in a country that would treat its citizens as serfs, chose to jump ship. My wife and I joined them, landing in upstate New York where we settled down to build our own version of the classic immigrant story. I quickly discovered that, like most aspects of life touched by central government, U.S. immigration policy can be arbitrary, capricious and subject to all sorts of arcane rules and odd priorities, all while serving as a convenient soapbox for elected representatives of both major parties. This isn't meant as a whine, just an observation from someone who has experienced it firsthand.. Having a Green Card means that you can live and work legally in the United States, subject to its laws, paying taxes and enjoying most of the freedoms assured by the U.S. Constitution. To gain permanent resident status, a prospective candidate needs to fill out a bunch of forms, be fingerprinted, go through a comprehensive background check in both the U.S. and the country of origin, demonstrate good moral character and hand over a sizable chunk of change. Of course, a resident, even a permanent one, doesn’t have one important privilege—the ability to vote. www.americanrifleman.org/articles/top-shot-winner-becomes-us-citizen/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=TopShop-text&utm_campaign=HolidayGiftGuide

'M-A-S-H' star Harry Morgan dies at age 96 By GREG RISLING Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) - Harry Morgan never planned to be an actor, yet he spent 10 years on one of the top TV series of all time, made 50 films and appeared on Broadway. He became one of the best-known character actors in Hollywood. He was 96. But it was Morgan's portrayal of the fatherly Col. Sherman Potter on "M-A-S-H" for which Morgan became most famous, and he knew it. "M-A-S-H was so damned good," Morgan told The Associated Press. "I didn't think they could keep the level so high." His wry humor, which helped net him an Emmy for the CBS-TV hit, carried onto the show. "He was an imp," said Mike Farrell, who starred as B.J. Hunnicutt in "M-A-S-H" along with Morgan and Alan Alda. "As Alan once said, there's not an un-adorable bone in the man's body. He was full of fun, and he was smart as a whip." www.wate.com/story/16210049/m-a-s-h-star-harry-morgan-dies-at-age-96#.Tt_lnONHBvY.facebook

first off, you are dealing with an NFA item. www.atf.gov/publications/firearms/nfa-handbook/2nd, this is a very old style suppressor, It would have been better to replace it with a newer made version. 3rd, how much would it have cost the guy to have a manufacturer/gunsmith licensed to work on NFA items actually replace the items? not much really. unfortunately there is now an ATF ruling b/c the question was asked. I will grant that there should be an overhaul on how the ATF makes a lot of its rulings, and contradicting rulings, when dealing with NFA items.

face to face sale of a legal handgun to a legal buyer that lives in your state does not require any paperwork or transfer through a firearms dealer. a handgun cannot be sold across state lines without having a transfer done through a firearms dealer, usually done for $25-$35 payable to the dealer.
if you are iffy, about the buyer, don't sell it. If you want a record, do up a bill of sale with the persons name & drivers license number. the buyer must be legally able to purchase a handgun, 21yrs old, no felonies, not mentally deficient, etc., etc..
no, you don't have to see the buyer's ID.

the 5.56NATO round is based upon the .223Remington round. you can fire the 223 inside a rifle chambered for the 5.56NATO, however if you fire a 5.56NATO round inside a rifle chambered for 223 you cause excessive pressure which can result your rifle exploding. A simple way to prevent this is to make sure your rifle is chambered for 5.56NATO. make sure the rifle is properly marked, if your in doubt you can always have a gunsmith check the dimensions of the chamber.
No. All Military M-16/M-4's are chambered in the 5.56NATO round, not 223.

I agree with this legislation but there will be backlash. Cops in places like NY,NJ will arrest people who are legally carrying in some cases shoot them claiming that the person tried to pull their weapon. NJ cops have been known to arrest people traveling because the person had hi-cap mags and or hallow point ammo. They claim that in their state these are illegal and even though the traveler is covered by federal law it is up to the courts to determine. As far as I understand it, local and state laws that restrict standard capacity magazines and hollow point bullets will still stand. meaning that if I needed to go to new yourk I would have to make sure that I complied with NY laws regarding types of ammunition/ magazines etc. the only thing this law would allow me to do is carry my concealed firearm legally in NY, NJ or Kalifornia. and I honestly have no need to go to any of these places... well, maybe LA, but thats only to go train with Guru denny of the dog brothers.

U.S. House Passes NRA-backed National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Legislation The U.S. House of Representatives has passed an important self-defense measure that would enable millions of Right-to-Carry permit holders across the country to carry concealed firearms while traveling outside their home states. H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, passed by a majority bipartisan vote of 272 to 154. All amendments aimed to weaken or damage the integrity of this bill were defeated.
“NRA has made the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act a priority because it enhances the fundamental right to self-defense guaranteed to all law-abiding people,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “People are not immune from crime when they cross state lines. That is why it is vital for them to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones should the need arise.”
H.R. 822, introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), allows any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes.
This bill does not affect existing state laws. State laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within each state’s borders. H.R. 822 does not create a federal licensing system or impose federal standards on state permits; rather, it requires the states to recognize each others' carry permits, just as they recognize drivers' licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards.
As of today, 49 states have laws in place that permit their citizens to carry a concealed firearm in some form. Only Illinois and the District of Columbia deny its residents the right to carry concealed firearms outside their homes or businesses for self-defense.
“We are grateful for the support of Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, Majority Whip McCarthy, Judiciary Chairman Smith and primary sponsors Congressmen Stearns and Shuler for their steadfast support of H.R. 822. Thanks to the persistence of millions of American gun owners and NRA members, Congress has moved one step closer to improving crucial self-defense laws in this country,” concluded Cox.

The M1 Carbine The M1 Carbine owes its existence to the need to arm battlefield support troops with something other than a weighty M1 Garand. Thus, in 1938 Gen. Douglas MacArthur issued a directive to develop a “light rifle” for rear-line personnel. The task fell to Winchester’s engineers, including William C. Roemer, Fred Humeston and supervisor Edwin Pugsley, based on a concept by Jonathon Edmund Browning, half-brother of John Browning. Although the 1952 movie “Carbine Williams” credits David Marshall Williams with inventing the M1 Carbine, as Bruce Canfield points out in “The Complete Guide To The M1 Garand and M1 Carbine,” Williams’ sole contribution was the carbine’s short-stroke gas piston system. On Nov. 24, 1941, the Army contracted with Winchester and General Motors’ Inland Manufacturing Division to start production on what was officially known as “United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1.” It was fortuitous timing; two weeks later, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Winchester and Inland produced the majority of the guns, assisted by (in order of quantity) Underwood-Elliot-Fisher; Saginaw Steering Gear Division of General Motors (which assembled carbines from parts produced by the Irwin-Petersen Arms Co. of Grand Rapids, Mich.,); National Postal Meter; International Business Machines; Standard Products of Port Clinton, Ohio; and Rock-Ola Manufacturing Co. Extra receivers were produced by the Quality Hardware Machine Co. Early carbines had L-shaped rear sight assemblies, changed around 1944 to adjustable apertures. Bayonet lug sleeves were added later. Various additional parts revisions throughout production, combined with the numerous contractor sources, can make carbine collecting a lifetime affair. www.americanrifleman.org/articles/the-m1-carbine/

Tell me this is not happening... A friend of mine had their house broken into the other day. The dog attacked the intruder putting number of holes in him. The intruder ran off like the little bitch he is. My friend did not call the police because of concern on what would happen to the dog. Just cleaned up the blood and got new locks. the dog should not be in any trouble. but they do need to report the break in. just my opinion. I'd check with the police moderator & warkitty, just to be sure.

SITTING DOWN WITH BEGINNERS.. Handguns can be intimidating to a complete beginner trying to get over the fear of injury that comes with handling what can be a deadly tool. After teaching him or her The Fundamental Rules of Gun Safety, it becomes time for the student to learn the operating drill for the particular handgun with which he or she will begin the training cycle. In my opinion, it is unwise to present a new shooter with more than one gun at a time. Ideally, the first gun should be a DA/SA revolver, but that is not always possible. Whatever the selected handgun is, make sure the beginner has a thorough understanding of how the gun works. Then you can move on to using the gun to its full potential. The business of teaching marksmanship is complex, with many manuals and books written on the subject. For the most part, however, experts agree on the basic principles with the most important being sight alignment, followed closely by trigger control. I have taught these skills to a lot of folks, but never thought of a particular teaching technique until I saw an instructional video a few years ago. It was radical stuff, but it really works. www.americanrifleman.org/blogs/sitting-down-with-beginners/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=WileyClapp-text&utm_campaign=MossbergSA20
