I'd say a couple of extra parking decks would be nice to have downtown, instead of parking lots!

June 21 : 2011 Mr. Revolver, Jerry Miculek Wins USPSA Area 5 Regional Title SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. - The man who is the face of revolver shooting in America - and probably the world - Jerry Miculek of Princeton, La. won the Revolver division title at the U.S. Practical Shooting Association's Area 5 Regional Handgun Championship. Miculek, who shoots for the Smith & Wesson shooting team, won seven stages and outpaced the defending champ, Matt Griffin of Louisville, Ky., by 54 points with his final score of 1421.5422 points. "Nobody runs a revolver like Jerry Miculek and beating him in competition is probably the single most challenging task in the sport of practical shooting. That's why it was no surprise to see his name atop the leader board at the conclusion of the Area 5 Championship," said Gary Stevens, the USPSA Area 5 director. Griffin finished second with a final score of 1367.3229 points and four stage wins. Third place went to Mike Carmoney of Mitchellville, Iowa who won one stage and finished with 1302.7398. www.thetacticalwire.com/story/239724

'Gunsmoke' Star James Arness Dies at Age 88 Read more: www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/06/03/gunsmoke-star-james-arness-dies-at-age-88/#ixzz1OFylct8uJames Arness, the 6-foot-6 actor who towered over the television landscape for two decades as righteous Dodge City lawman Matt Dillon in "Gunsmoke," died Friday. He was 88. The actor died in his sleep at his home in Brentwood, Calif., according to his business manager, Ginny Fazer. Arness' official website posted a letter from Arness on Friday that he wrote with the intention that it be posted posthumously: "I had a wonderful life and was blessed with some many loving people and great friends," he said. "I wanted to take this time to thank all of you for the many years of being a fan of Gunsmoke, The Thing, How the West Was Won and all the other fun projects I was lucky enough to have been allowed to be a part of. having an old gun that is reliable and you know how it use it is better than not having one.
with that said. there are plenty of options out there that you could upgrade to. it all depends on what you are looking for. revolver or semi-auto, caliber, grip, how it feels in your hand, compact, sub-compact, full sized handgun, high capacity mags.
if it is used strictly for home defense I would recommend a full sized handgun with a large capacity magazine and one that has an integral rail so that you could attach a weapon mounted light system to it (b/c you have to ID your target).
you have many choices for semi-auto's: -S&W has the M&P series as well as their new SD line. -Springfield armory's XD or XDm line. -any Glock. -Sig Sauer has several options. -CZ's have an excellent reputation.
For a Handgun that will be used for home defense I recommend the following. (these are not in any specific order)
-High capacity -ability to add a weapon mounted light -reliability -accessibility -user comfort/shootablity (how good do you shoot it) -two or three spare reloads that are quickly accessible -a standard caliber (.38 special, .357 magnum, 9mm, 40S&W, 45acp) I personally do not like the ballistics of the .380acp and do not recommend it, I would take a Russian surplus 9x18 makrov over a .380, this is my personal opinion.
you also should factor in the cost of ammunition as well as how easy is it going to be to find your ammo for training.

We're Working on Gun Control 'Under the Radar' On March 30, the 30th anniversary of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, Jim Brady, who sustained a debilitating head wound in the attack, and his wife, Sarah, came to Capitol Hill to push for a ban on the controversial "large magazines." Brady, for whom the law requiring background checks on handgun purchasers is named, then met with White House press secretary Jay Carney. During the meeting, President Obama dropped in and, according to Sarah Brady, brought up the issue of gun control, "to fill us in that it was very much on his agenda," she said. "I just want you to know that we are working on it," Brady recalled the president telling them. "We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar." verify age by checking ID, and know how to spot a fake ID, if you are not sure of her age. as a matter of fact, if your over 21, don't go round banging chicks under 21. Its safer. always ask for ID.

CDC Warns Public to Prepare for 'Zombie Apocalypse'Are you prepared for the impending zombie invasion? That's the question posed by the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention in a Monday blog posting gruesomely titled, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse." And while it's no joke, CDC officials say it's all about emergency preparation. "There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for," the posting reads. "Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That's right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency." Duluth, Ga. Woman Shoots, Kills Home Intruder Updated: Wednesday, 11 May 2011, 11:50 PM EDT Published : Wednesday, 11 May 2011, 7:14 AM EDT Deidra Dukes By MYFOXATLANTA STAFF/myfoxatlanta DULUTH, Ga. - Gwinnett County police say a woman shot and killed an intruder who confronted her in her own home as she got out of the shower on Wednesday morning. Police say it happened at a home on East Mount Tabor Circle in unincorporated Duluth around 6:30 a.m. They say the 53-year-old homeowner got out of her shower to discover a man in her bathroom who was armed with a kitchen knife. Police believe he was trying to sexually assault the woman. Police say a struggle then ensued, and the woman was hurt when the man pushed her back into shower. Investigators say the woman started hitting him with a shower curtain rod and then told the man not to hurt her, and that she had money in the next room. www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/Person-Shot-in-Gwinnett-Burglary-20110511-am-sd

www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/05/01/bin.laden.obit/index.html?hpt=T1&iref=BN1bin Laden, the face of terror, killed in Pakistan (CNN) -- The most prominent face of terror in America and beyond, Osama Bin Laden, has been killed in Pakistan, U.S. officials said Sunday night. Bin Laden was the leader of al Qaeda, the terrorist network behind the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. U.S. officials said that their forces have the body of bin Laden. The enormity of the destruction -- the World Trade Center's towers devastated by two hijacked airplanes, the Pentagon partially destroyed by a third hijacked jetliner, a fourth flight crashed in rural Pennsylvania, and more than 3,000 people killed -- gave bin Laden a global presence.

one of the sites I looked at the other day had an AK configured S12 shotgun for $999. the standard stocked S12 was priced at a whopping $799!! Wish I had bought some when they were cheap too. but thats the way it goes. prices go up, but don't come all the way back down.

I posted the link I received from an email. while I have not personally checked the source. the author that is quoted did a fairly decent job in explaining the basics of what could end up being banned. which is why I posted the story.
reading offical BATFE forms can be.... interesting, if your not used to the language used.
I do feel that restricting the import, or outright import ban, of firearms due to certain features or the ATF's interpretation of "sporting" is unacceptable. Actually, this is pretty much about the ATF trying regulate gun ownership in light of the Heller decision. I think that this is simply an attempt to circumvent congress by "regulating" what type of firearm a person can/cannot own.
It's not like these are NFA firearms, which require a tax stamp and registration.

COULD YOUR SHOTGUN SOON BE OUTLAWED? MAYBE, IF THE ATF HAS ITS WAY www.theblaze.com/stories/could-your-shotgun-soon-be-outlawed/What’s the definition of a “shotgun?” According to Dictionary.com it’s “a smoothbore gun for firing small shot to kill birds and small quadrupeds, though often used with buckshot to kill larger animals.” For the gun enthusiasts, that’s only partly true, as there is also the option of using slugs. But what if there’s another addition that will soon be added to the definition? How about, illegal. n a series of fascinating, and eerie, posts over at the blog Beregond’s Bar (and linked on Redstate.com), author “Tom” pens a four-part series on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and their new campaign to change the definition of the term “shotgun.” A change, based on a recent study,* that could soon make some of them illegal. But as Tom points out, the implications for all guns are chilling. Below are excerpts from the series. Click on the appropriate link to read more. Part 1, which focuses on changing the term “sporting use” in order to ban certain shotguns: The Obama administration is seeking once again to do via regulation what they would never be able to do via legislation. This time shotguns are in the crosshairs, specifically certain popular imported weapons. [...] Sporting use is one of the three main thrusts of gun control efforts in America. The other two are racism and those who openly advocate complete bans except for military and police. (The complete ban advocates often hide under cover of sporting use, but that and the racist history of gun control are topics for another day.

www.thetacticalwire.com/story/235370Kahr Arms Pursues Patent Infringement Lawsuit PEARL RIVER, NY - Kahr Arms, the award-winning manufacturer of compact pistols based in Worcester, Mass, is currently engaged in a patent infringement lawsuit against Diamondback Firearms, LLC, the maker of compact .380 ACP and 9mm pistols based in Cocoa, Florida. Seven U.S. patents cover Kahr's unique locking, firing and extraction systems. The incomparable cocking cam trigger system employs a patented cam to both unlock the passive safety and complete cocking and releasing of the firing pin. The system provides a "safe cam action" and unbelievably smooth double action only trigger stroke, fast to fire in critical defensive situations. These innovations found only in the Kahr pistol give the Kahr shooter an advantage in self-defense, home protection and duty or off duty use. The Kahr design is original, creating the smallest package possible in four defensive calibers - 9mm, .40S&W, .45 ACP and the .380 ACP.

english.pravda.ru/world/europe/31-03-2011/117405-sweden-0/Politically neutral Sweden thirsty for war Sweden, that is not a member of NATO but a country powerful in respect of its military, is ready to join the bombing of Libya. This means increased cooperation of the Swedish with the alliance. This may negatively impact the geopolitical situation in not so much Libya as Russia. The Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt was the first one to announce the initiative of the participation of Scandinavians in the military operations against Gaddafi. This politician, who at some point was a prime minister, is known for his favorable attitude towards the cooperation of his neutral country with NATO. As it turned out, the initiative of the head of Swedish diplomacy was backed by Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt. Before a meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Reinfeldt has proposed to send eight Swedish fighters Gripen, a military transport ship "Hercules" and a scouting aircraft to Libya. The final decision on sending a Swedish aircraft to Africa must be made by the parliament. Reinfeldt is hopeful that members of the Riksdag approve his plans.

Tennessee: Pro-Gun Bill Signed into Law by Governor Haslam Thursday, April 07, 2011 On March 31, Governor Bill Haslam signed Senate Bill 519 into law. SB 519, which took immediate effect, recognizes that any employer permitting a person to legally carry a firearm on the employer's property does not constitute an “occupational safety and health hazard” to the employees. SB 519, sponsored by state Senator Mike Bell (R-9), passed in the Senate by a 30 to 1 vote. House Bill 283 is the companion bill to SB 519, sponsored by state Representative Vance Dennis (R-71), that passed in the House by an 82 to 8 vote. The recognition of Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards by the General Assembly in SB 519 and HB 283 should serve as a stepping stone toward the passage of parking lot/worker protection legislation that would allow gun owners to lawfully store firearms in their privately-owned and locked vehicle while parked in publicly accessible parking lots controlled by their employer or a business that they frequent. Employees should not be forced to choose between being fired from their job or sacrificing their right to self-defense on their daily commute. www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?id=6564

there has never been a problem with the police & fire pension plan. they just want access to the money. so they fork out money to get a study to help them get access to it.
utterly disrespectfully that we have a fallen officer that is not even laid to rest yet and our piss poor mayor and council bring this up.... again.
