Charter Arms Pitbull .40 Cal. Rimless Revolver Charter Arms has announced a .40-caliber rimless revolver option as an ideal backup for law enforcement personnel. By NRA Staff 8/11/2011 Charter Arms has announced the introduction of the world's first specifically chambered .40-caliber revolver with its Pitbull .40 Cal. Rimless Revolver The Pitbull .40 Cal. Rimless has a 2.3-inch barrel and five-shot capacity, and is marketed as the ideal backup handgun for law enforcement, since it can use the same ammunition as many law enforcement standard sidearms, .40 S&W. Previous complications of a .40 S&W-chambered revolver have been overcome by the use of Charter's rimless cartridge extractor, which has a dual coil spring assembly located in the extractor that allows insertion and retention in each chamber of the revolver cylinder. This allows for reliable extraction, even for rimless cartridges. The Pitbull has an overall length of 6 3/4 inches and weighs 20 ounces, with a fixed frame rear sight and a ramped front sight and standard hammer. A double-action only hammer is available upon request. For additional information on the Pitbull .40 Cal. Rimless Revolver, please visit the Charter Arms website. www.americanrifleman.org/articles/charter-arms-pitbull-revolver/

Around the Water Cooler: Decreasing Crime, Increasing LEO Deaths by Rich Grassi Law enforcement officials made their way to Rapid City SD this weekend for the Sunday funeral of Rapid City Police Officer James R. McCandless, this according to KELO Television news. Sunday was also the day that his fellow officer, Nick Armstrong, succumbed to wounds suffered in the same gunfight last Tuesday. The criminal suspect is also deceased, according to KELO. Another officer, Tim Doyle, was injured in the shootout and, fitted with a breathing tube, he attended Sunday's funeral for Officer McCandless. A story from the Los Angeles Times says that early on Sunday, a Captain in the Marine Reserves, just home from an Afghanistan deployment, was on duty as a four-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department. As Officer Jeremy Henwood was stopped at a stop sign, a black Audi flashed its lights, apparently to get the officer's attention. According to witnesses, the Audi glided up alongside the patrol car, the passenger window opened and a shotgun was raised and fired, striking Officer Henwood. The Audi sped away as witnesses ran to the officer's aid - one rendering first aid and another reading the Audi's license plate into the officer's police radio. www.thetacticalwire.com/features/224824

Editor's Notebook: The Case for Firearms Suppressors Editor's Note: This feature is from the August 14, 2008 issue; we're still waiting on removal of suppressors from the purview of the National Firearms Act and here's why:by Rich Grassi There's recently been considerable discussion about "sporting uses" of firearms suppressors. On the internet, I've found several forum entries - some on political websites - as well as a petition for deregulation of suppressors down to the level of a firearm - transfer on a Form 4473 after a NICS from your friendly neighborhood 01 FFL. To start with, why worry about the "sporting uses" language at all? Well, unless you are law enforcement, suppressors are of precious little value in a concealed carry defense scenario. They can be unwieldy and not easily stowed. For home defense there may be an application - but you can slip on active hearing protection and better hear the person hunting you. Active ear pro would serve the same purpose with some benefits. That said, you may not live alone and the thought of firing a centerfire rifle in your home with family members in close proximity may make you pause. www.thetacticalwire.com/features/224792

Body of Wyoming Deputy Lost in Water Rescue Recovered Girl survived, but Gross was swept away in the river swollen by heavy snowmelt. Monday, August 1, 2011 DOUGLAS, Wyo. (AP) — The body of a Wyoming deputy who jumped in the North Platte River to assist a struggling girl was discovered Sunday. It was the fourth day of searching for 29-year-old Bryan P. Gross, of the Converse County sheriff's office, who went in the river Thursday evening after a teenage girl who appeared to be struggling. The girl survived, but Gross was swept away in the river swollen by heavy snowmelt. County Sheriff Clinton Becker said Gross' body was found late Sunday morning in the river about a mile and a half from where Gross entered. Searchers from several law enforcement agencies and civilian volunteers checked the banks of the river. Divers, dogs and a helicopter helped in the search. The sheriff did not describe how Gross was located www.lawofficer.com/article/news/body-wyoming-deputy-lost-water

“Fast & Furious” Hearings Raise More Questions Than Answers Friday, July 29, 2011 The more information that comes out about the reckless “Fast and Furious” gun running operation conducted by the Phoenix BATFE office, the more clear it seems that knowledge of the operation, and approval for it, went a lot higher than the Phoenix field office, or even the BATFE. There is now clear evidence, uncovered by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee headed by Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) that senior Obama Administration officials were aware of this disastrous operation. Last Tuesday, Rep. Issa conducted another round of hearings. Among those who testified were William Newell and William McMahon, BATFE Special Agents who oversaw the program in Phoenix. Those hearings revealed that senior Dept. of Justice officials, including former Deputy Attorney General David Ogden and Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, knew about the program. Additionally, other federal agencies were identified as having been made aware of the operation, including the IRS, DEA and ICE.

backwoodshome.com/blogs/MassadAyoob/2011/07/26/the-norway-atrocity/THE NORWAY ATROCITY By Massad Ayoob History repeats itself. Monster commits mass murder in the most cowardly ways. Bomb in building, because there might have been armed police and security nearby if he had tried to kill the innocent one on one. THEN goes to an island where he knows there are no armed police OR armed citizens, and shoots helpless young people like the proverbial fish in a barrel…and surrenders as soon as armed protectors arrive, even though they’re too late to stop the horror. Proving once again that “gun free zones” are places where only those who laugh at the law will be armed…”zones” that might better be called hunting preserves for psychopathic killers.

San Francisco may make job seekers with criminal records a ‘protected’ classThomas Ahearn SF Workplace Issues Examiner July 15, 2011 The city of San Francisco is considering enacting limitations on the use of criminal records for employment screening by making job seekers with criminal histories – excluding sex offenders and those convicted of violent crimes – a “protected” class when looking for work. The San Francisco Human Rights Commission will hold a hearing on the use of criminal history in employment on Monday, July 25, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room 400 of San Francisco City Hall to discuss how prior arrests and convictions should impact jobseekers with criminal pasts. San Francisco is starting the process to create “protections in employment for individuals who have had prior arrests or convictions” by greatly limiting the use of criminal records in hiring decisions and designating ex-convicts a protected class. The San Francisco Human Rights Commission cannot enact ordinances or regulations on its own but can prepare recommendations for the Board of Supervisors to review and enact. For more information and agendas, visit the Human Rights Commission (HRC) website. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) – the agency of the United States Government that enforces the federal employment discrimination laws – currently has guidelines on how employers may use criminal records of job applicants. Employers must show that they considered the following three factors to determine whether a decision not to hire an applicant due to a past criminal conviction was justified by business necessity: www.examiner.com/workplace-issues-in-san-francisco/san-francisco-may-make-job-seekers-with-criminal-records-a-protected-class#ixzz1TDhCVGnr

Gt dist will end up beating pretty much any local dealer, this is mainly b/c they cater to LEO's. you will have to do a transfer fee for pistols since they are in GA.
I do a lot of business with the value pawn on hwy 153. they tend to have a good selection and have an absolutely awesome lay away plan, with plenty of time to pay it off.
sportsmans supply in hixson has a good selection, but you will not find a deal. and the majority of people are turned off by the owner. but I have heard that he can pretty much order anything for you.
shooters depot. its locally owned and has two stores, one on shallowford rd & in Ft.O. I have not bought anything from them, and I have hit or miss stories with customer service. which is also my experience when shopping with them.
some people like carter's on 58, I've never been impressed, and only bought an accessory from them once, b/c they had it.
I go very often to sportsmans warehouse, b/c I fondle the guns & accessories there. I've been to acadamy a few times. and just do not have an opinion one way or another.
ultimately I spend most of my money at the valupawn on 153 & at Gt's. I pretty much know exactly what I'm looking for before I get to handling the final two or three options. then I find who has the best price.

Duke, Yes I meant professional.
I expressed my opinion that the guy was being a dickhead. The officer was professional during the stop. no the individual recording the video did not have to identify himself. I simply stated my opinion and you chime in with rape victim and papers please. You tend to make posts that only quote law and are worded to be antagonistic. You could have simply stated that its kinda hard to not sound like a dick head when your exercising your rights in this type of situation. and I probably wouldn't have bothered to even reply to you.
Your reply simply hit a nerve, that at the time I found to be offensive. and I now remember that I should not feed the trolls.
I do not need a lesson in law, when I am stating my opinion. It is my opinion.
If I abuse my moderator status, the other moderators and admin here will deal with me as they see fit. I may not be as articulate, or as patient with you as the other moderators here, but I'll be damned if I am a coward.
Again, I posted this video as a counterpoint to the canton ohio video. And I would simply prefer for you to go bashing the cops in the canton thread, not in this one.

Duke, I posted this video as a counterpoint to the canton ohio PD video that I have days before you posted it here.
This section is the PM's area, but I'll Lock this thread if you continue to bash the cop in this video. he was extremely professional In dealing with the open carry advocate who filmed the encounter.
If you wish to play your game, please do it the canto Ohio thread.

Blast in Oslo Government Buildings OSLO (Reuters) - A bomb ripped through Oslo's central government district on Friday and a gunman dressed as a policeman then opened fire at a youth camp on a nearby island, killing at least 17 people altogether. In the biggest attack in western Europe since the 2005 London transport bombings, seven died when the bomb exploded in the Norwegian capital in mid-afternoon scattering glass, shattered masonry and twisted steel across the streets. Shortly afterwards, a gunman opened fire at the youth camp of the ruling political party on Utoeya island, north-west of Oslo. Police said at least 10 were shot dead as they fled shooting on the small, wooded island. The island was evacuated and police found undetonated explosives. www.nytimes.com/reuters/2011/07/22/world/europe/international-us-norway-blast.html?_r=1&hp........................................................................................................ An Alternate Look at Handgun Stopping Power
By Greg Ellifritz I've been interested in firearm stopping power for a very long time. I remember reading Handguns magazine back in the late 1980s when Evan Marshall was writing articles about his stopping power studies. When Marshall's first book came out in 1992, I ordered it immediately, despite the fact that I was a college student and really couldn't afford its $39 price tag. Over the years I bought all of the rest of Marshall's books as well as anything else I could find on the subject. I even have a first edition of Gunshot Injuries by Louis Lagarde published in 1915. Every source I read has different recommendations. Some say Marshall's data is genius. Some say it is statistically impossible. Some like big heavy bullets. Some like lighter, faster bullets. There isn't any consensus. The more I read, the more confused I get. One thing I remember reading that made a lot of sense to me was an article by Massad Ayoob. He came out with his own stopping power data around the time Marshall published Handgun Stopping Power. In the article, Ayoob took his critics to task. He suggested that if people didn't believe his data, they should collect their own and do their own analysis. That made sense to me. So that's just what I did. I always had a slight problem with the methodology of Marshall and Sanow's work. For consistency purposes, they ONLY included hits to the torso and ONLY included cases where the person was hit with just a single round. Multiple hits screwed up their data, so they excluded them. This lead to an unrealistically high stopping power percentage, because it factored out many of the cases where a person didn't stop! I wanted to look at hits anywhere on the body and get a realistic idea of actual stopping power, no matter how many hits it took to get it. So I started collecting data. Over a 10-year period, I kept track of stopping power results from every shooting I could find. I talked to the participants of gunfights, read police reports, attended autopsies, and scoured the newspapers, magazines, and Internet for any reliable accounts of what happened to the human body when it was shot. buckeyefirearms.com/node/7866

It's amazing that people have completely overlooked JiT's last post. I would suggest that you re-read his post. On the subject of MANDATORY training. while I am a HUGE proponent of training. making it mandatory will not work. too many people will feel that it is an infringement upon their rights. with that said, if you look at Justin's post, he tell's where he learned gun safety. First from his father, Hunter safety, and JROTC in high school. The problem that has occurred is that gun ownership has been so vilified by politicians that you no longer have safety courses easily available at the local level, and even then it is geared to the outdoors man. so many people suffer from Hoplophobia ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoplophobia) that it nearly impossible to offer a basic safety course, in an area that is not considered 'rural'. The NRA, NSSF and several other associations offer basic safety courses. but if your not interested guns, or you believe that you can learn everything on the internet, then you are not going to take the few minutes to see what courses are out there. there are, and there always will be people that believe they know how to safely handle a firearm. there are others that know how to safely handle a gun, and become complacent. you can debate the difference of an accidental discharge vs. a negligent discharge. Just b/c someone has a car and has their license and even though they have taken a drivers ed or drivers safety course, that alone does not make them a good driver. Just b/c you love your children and will do anything for them, does not mean you are a good parent. any comparison is relevant as long as you are willing to look at it with an open mind. The best thing that you can do is start to understand that we are a country that is rooted in a 'gun culture'. from there you need to teach the culture which includes teaching gun safety. that needs to begin in the home, the church, and the school. boys used to be able to ride their bikes down the street with a 22LR to go squirrel hunting. they were responsible, and nobody thought anything bad would happen. so why is it that from the times of our grandparents to now, that we are no longer considered capable of being responsible? perhaps we should look at ourselves before we start forcing our personal views on the rest of the country.

Self-Defense Pistol 101
Using a handgun to defend your life requires more than just a familiarity with firearms. By Richard MannThe “keep it simple, stupid,” or KISS, principle applies to most things in life. Training with a defensive handgun is no different. To employ a handgun effectively in a defensive situation, you must be able to get it into play smoothly and deliver accurate hits before the attacker injures or kills you. And the only realistic way to accomplish that is to practice the skills you could reasonably be expected to use in a life-or-death situation before it occurs. They include drawing the handgun, hitting the target, moving, using cover, reloading and clearing a malfunction. The following is a 100-round training regimen, consisting of five drills, that takes all these skills into account. Become proficient with them now, and you will be better-prepared for the dark day when trouble comes to call. The Dot Drill (24 shots) I strongly believe that most defensive handgun practice should start with the gun holstered. This lets you practice your draw stroke or handgun presentation more frequently. When practicing basic skills most shooters draw the handgun only once and burn through an entire magazine before they holster again, if at all, which wastes precious opportunities to practice handgun presentation. Position a target with six 2-inch circles at between 5 and 7 yards. Shoot one shot at each circle, drawing the handgun from the holster before each shot. The goal is to fire one shot at each circle and hit each target once. This is not a speed drill, but rather it’s an accuracy and gun-handling drill to help you establish a foundation for gun presentation, sight alignment and trigger control. Conduct this drill four times at the beginning of every trip to the range. www.americanrifleman.org/articles/self-defense-pistol-101/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Pistol101-text&utm_campaign=Navy

I'd prefer to have a responding officer is who is knowledgable, experianced, doesn't have an us vs. them attitude and someone who isn't gonna be rude b/c of the B.S. he had to put up with on their last call.
I dont care what the weight/height/sex/color/etc is of the responding officer. as long as the officer is professional.
