You'd have to fix it to make it work again first.

I planted a black cherry tree and a dwarf peach tree yesterday. Ace Hardware on HWY 58 has several more at 50% off in the far back part of the outside nursery area.

algore is too lazy to plant anything, especially trees that require WORK all year 'round.

Going to put some gladioluses (gladioli...?) in the ground today. Will also be getting some pepper seeds planted...several varieties of hot: habanero, big jim chiles, green chiles, cayenne, tobasco (which I always thought were red cayenne) and some jalapenos.

I have fertilized the fruit trees. Will be tilling the garden this weekend in preparation for planting around April 7th.

Most of the garden is in...pepper plants need a couple more weeks before going outside.

Planted some seds in containers....carrots - 2 varieties, spinach mustard greens, cilantro & dill. Also did some flowers for the front porch...African daisy, marigold, gypsophila & helichrysum. Threw some 'autumn beauty' sunflower seeds in a spot in the yard just for fun.

I've been wanting a veggie garden in the back yard for years but it's such a hassle to kill all the existing vegetation, dig out the roots, amend the soil, yadda yadda, before I even start thinking about seeds....
This year, I'm CHEATING! I bought 4 of those knock off brand Upside Down planters, put tomatoes coming out of the bottom holes and bell peppers on the tops then hung them from an old clothing rack on the back porch at the shop. That got me so excited that I found 9 empty plastic laundry soap buckets (2 and 5 gallon containers), drilled holes in the bottom and started filling them up. I had to go buy more dirt, but I'll be planting them tomorrow.
I bought nice plants already started from ACE and Lowes. I'm a touch worried that the tomatoes I bought at ACE and stuck through those bottom holes may have had to much root damage to live, so I bought more tomatoes at Lowes for the buckets. I also picked up some oregano, basil, red onion sets, jalapeno, banana peppers, okra, zucchini and even cantaloupe. I'll either have nothing but a big mess or more food than I can give away. We'll see! At least we're enjoying having something interesting to look at through the window.

Excellent! I have been doing more nad more container gardening as well. Just be sure to water those tomatoes often...those "upside down" planters dry out a bit quicker than traditional planters.

Last year, after the ole heart wouldn't handle the tilling, etc. I built a couple of raised beds from 2 x 8s with plastic lining and top soil. I also planted some of the upside down tomato plants. The raised bed plants outperformed the upsidedown 4 to 1. This year I added two more beds and already have green tomatoes golf ball size and bigger---thank you Miracle grow. Only problem I have is the plant green leaves grow too large, My squash plant leaves are huge and the "head" lettuce grows more akin to a bush--tall leaves, not round heads. Apparently the "green" fertilizer in the Miracle Grow is outperforming the "fruit" fertilizer. I have forgotten which element to add to the soil to rectify this, but all-in-all raised beds are working well.

My container plants are noticeably bigger today. The right side up ones are bigger and have blooms on them while the upside down ones are smaller without blooms. The Squash & Zucchini plants are out growing everything.

Already harvested tons of leaf lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, and the broccoli has been beautiful. Peas are really coming in now too.

From seed works for all veggies.

Ok. I just don't think I've ever seen Broccoli seeds. Although, I never looked for them... so that could be the reason. I'm bad about being lazy and buying the plants already started. I haven't had a lot of luck with starting from seeds for my flowers and I haven't done vegetables in a very, very long time.

Broccoli seeds are available. Broccoli is a "cold" loving plant, and is usually planted in early spring. It can be planted in late summer, but the growing season is never truly predictable after September.

It's been about 3 weeks since I planted my container garden. The Right side up in 5 gallon bucket plants are out stripping the Upside down ones in small baskets by leaps and bounds. Photos in the Gallery.

I have vegetables/herbs at various stages of growth in several containers. I'm on the lookout for some nice large, fairly shallow containers, if anyone has some they are going to toss into the trash. Cracked storage bins would be excellent.

Ok.... Now my Zucchini leaves are turning a rather unhealthy yellowish color. Not all, just some. Some are just yellow around the edges. Anyone know what's wrong with them?
And some of the pepper plants seem to be getting choked out by the rapid growth of the tomatoes in the same buckets. I think I need to transplant them to their own pots. Moving might kill them, but they aren't doing well where they are.
This is all a big experiment for me.

I have been inspired my ScarlettP and went looking for more plants and containers. Ace has all their vegetable plants on sale for 50% off...and I scrounged up some containers from under the house. Now, if I had only remembered the potting soil....
