Got it all hooked up and running. I just have to say that they DVR is 100x better than the Comcast box not to mention that you can pick up where you left off on any other box in the house. The HD channels are crisp and color is great. One other little nice thing is how they set up the HD channels. The local channels in HD are in the 300s and if you want Channel 3 you go to 303 not some crazy number. It makes it easy to get to the HD channel. The internet is fast and when testing on www.speedtest.net I get a ping of 5 ms as opposed to 30-40ms with Comcast. The home phone is clear and loud enough. I don't use it much but I will be trying so I can give them feedback on it. The only downside I've found so far is with the hardware. It has all the latest connections but it lacks a RCA style SPDIF audio output so if you're home stereo doesn't have optical there is no other choice other than HDMI to get the digital sound. I've also experience slight audio trouble where the sound was muffled and static sounding. A reboot of the box cleared it right up. I spent about 30 minutes going through the Guide setting programs to record and with the 4 tuner (3 HD at once) I only ran into two conflicts. If you care enough I will be posting updates on my twitter. You can see the feed on my website www.raysoldano.com or www.twitter.com/raysoldano

I'm can't wait to get it! What is the cost of their service?
I saw an EPB truck installing fiber optic line just up the road from my house. I live right on the border of Chatt in Red Bank. Are they rolling it out just as they go with no concern for borders? Or are they waiting to make sure they get all of Chattanooga before moving onto other streets in other cities?

They didn't tell me a price. Right now I'm a beta tester and it's free "for 30 days or maybe longer"

Where did you see them installing? I'm in the same general area. I can't wait.

Yes you can - everyone but the beta testers has to wait.

Where did you see them installing? I'm in the same general area. I can't wait. On the corner of Lupton Drive and some street. The entrance to some subdivision, right before the curve in the road just before the Red Bank city limits. I looked today and followed the fiber optic cable down the road and saw that it comes to my house. I'm assuming it's the thick black cable with the foot(foot 1/2) long cylindrical box near every pole. It's lower than the other power lines. I've never noticed it before and I'm sure that's it. If so that's great news because I should be getting the service when it launches.

Dang it. I'm on the other side of the Red Bank/City of Chattanooga border. I was soooo hoping it was just around the corner

You can tell whether it's fiber that you see on the pole, because at every point that the line connects to the pole, there will be an orange sleeve around the line that says "epb fiber".

Thanks for the pics, could you post the model # of the cable box?

How big is the sleeve? If it's small it's possible it's on there and I didn't pay close attention. Is is possible they haven't put the sleeves on yet? I'll have to go check again and look closely. And also check the pole where I saw the EPB fiber truck working the other day. It sure looked like the same type of cable. He had it wound around in a circle hanging off the pole. And I know that wasn't there before. Maybe it's all wishful thinking. I hope they do it soon. My wife is getting antsy. She was looking at some AT&T DSL/Direct Tv thing in the mail she thought it was the new AT&T service she was ready to go with that. Hurry up EPB!

That box is a little fugly. But if it records 4 channels at a time, i'm down. It will be a welcome change from my Tivo that only records 1 channel at a time and won't record in HD.
How much does it hold?
saldo1981, what area of Chattanooga are you in?

It's pretty small, but if they've got the line coiled up hanging, I'd say that's almost certainly it, they leave it coiled until they come along and install splice cans.

You know a lot about this stuff. What do the splice cans do? Well there was a truck parked there that said EPB Fiber something. maybe contractor, installer. I forget the exact word but it gave me the impression that the work was subcontracted out. And I recall seeing something about splicing. I'll have to investigate more.

You know a lot about this stuff. What do the splice cans do? Those are the big things you see hanging from phone and cable lines, basically it's where they splice together multiple cables/fibers, kind of like a big splitter.

Thanks for answering.
I went home for lunch today and checked it out. Sure enough it had an orange sleeve that said "EPB Fiber". Now if it's all ready to go when EPB rolls out it's service is another thing.
I also saw EPB contractors working on other lines on Dayton Blvd.

I won't hold my breath. Most of Flat Top doesn't even have Comcast. Only our little area with the newer homes. They totally skipped everything before us.

We called last week and were told that our name would go on a list in case they needed additional beta testers in our area. We'll see.

Oh, and I could care less how ugly the box is. I just want a service with fast internet and few extra channels to flick between commercials, without having them yanked at will by the company providing the "service." Bye, bye Comcast.
