Have they corrected it yet? Students at SDMS hoist the flag and take it down. Does RBMS students do this?

This has gotta be somebody's idea of: - making a point
- showing a protest
- displaying ignorance
- all the above

They're just inviting some Viet Nam veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to come in and blow them all away for being stupid and disrespectful to the flag.

Ok, here's the story as it was told to me by several..
1) This sort of thing has been going on at RB Middle for "awhile" (several months) 2) The school chooses some students to raise the flag w/o any training 3) The lower grommet of the flag is allegedly not serviceable anymore. 3) The flag was raised incorrectly last Friday or Thursday 4) High winds ripped it free and entangled it in the upper mechanism 5) Attempts to bring it down resulted in the beginning of tearing of the flag 6) RBMS has called the county to take care of the problem 7) The request is currently making it's way up the county bureaucracy to dispatch a cherry-picker equipped truck
Now, I'm a vet and not that it means much but I was born on flag day (June 14).
I think it's high time the school appoint some group (boy scouts/girl scouts/ROTC whatever) to take care of the flag in a proper manner.
...just my 2 cents worth.
note: it's still up there as of noon, Tuesday April 17, 2007

There is NO reason that should be tolerated. Someone needs to take away their flagpole or at least disable it so they can't do this any more.

Isn't what they're doing illegal? For some reason, I thought there were laws regarding improperly displaying the American flag?

I thought so, and if there are such laws them someone needs to go ticket the administrator in charge of the flag.

I just talked with the foreman for maintenance for Hamilton County Schools on the phone:
He reports that to his knowledge the school has NOT turned in a work order regarding this of yet!
12:47pm, Tuesday April 17, 2007
....He states that it is the responsibility of the PRINCIPAL of the school involved to get the process going!
[modified as original problem has been solved. now to get a permanent solution in place]

There is NO excuse for this. They need to get the VFW to properly dispose of this flag. If they cannot afford to replace this I am sure that somebody who lives up there would donate one. A 6 x 10 flag can be purchased for about $100. This is a complete disgrace on the principal.

Well, when I called the school a moment ago they said they were in the middle of trying to rip it down....
w/o benefit of the truck evidently...
...now if this results in tatters hanging up there.....

(waves at visitors from Fark) Welcome to the one of the weirdest little cities in the country. You might want to save your greetings to our fellow Farkers till after you get a green light, subby. I just checked and this hasn't made the main page yet. Dave (A.K.A. FarkinExBubblehead)

I would not trust them with a flag if they flew one like that. IMO they should have lost the privilege to fly one.

I was thinking this was a botched attempt to fly the flag at half staff over the Virginia Tech shooting. This is horrible.

JOHNNY CASH LYRICS
"Ragged Old Flag"
I walked through a county courthouse square On a park bench, an old man was sittin' there. I said, "Your old court house is kinda run down, He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town". I said, "Your old flag pole is leaned a little bit, And that's a ragged old flag you got hangin' on it". He said, "Have a seat", and I sat down, "Is this the first time you've been to our little town" I said, "I think it is" He said "I don't like to brag, but we're kinda proud of That Ragged Old Flag
"You see, we got a little hole in that flag there, When Washington took it across the Delaware. and It got powder burned the night Francis Scott Key sat watching it, writing "Say Can You See" It got a rip in New Orleans, with Packingham & Jackson tugging at its seams. and It almost fell at the Alamo beside the Texas flag, But she waved on though. She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville, And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill. There was Robert E. Lee and Beauregard and Bragg, And the south wind blew hard on That Ragged Old Flag
"On Flanders Field in World War I, She got a big hole from a Bertha Gun, She turned blood red in World War II She hung limp, and low, a time or two, She was in Korea, Vietnam, She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam. She waved from our ships upon the briny foam and now they've about quit wavin' back here at home in her own good land here She's been abused, She's been burned, dishonored, denied an' refused, And the government for which she stands Has been scandalized throughout out the land. And she's getting thread bare, and she's wearin' thin, But she's in good shape, for the shape she's in. Cause she's been through the fire before and i believe she can take a whole lot more.
"So we raise her up every morning And we bring her down slow every night, We don't let her touch the ground, And we fold her up right. On second thought I *do* like to brag Cause I'm mighty proud of That Ragged Old Flag"
