I'm going to try to make it, so I'll check back here periodically to see what folks are bringing so I can make up my mind...

This may be another big Notta! We may just bring some pizza. I'll see if I can come up with something more original. How about paper goods? Will we need to bring some plates, plastic ware?

I can't Guarentee attendance due to unforcasted business requirements, but I can say I'm working and the venue is in MY District.

I always 'dress' for this one. Normally 'Elf' or 'Santa's inspiration'. I don't think I'm quite large enough to be Santa. Nor do I look good in a beard.

Stopped by the VFW hall last night to scope things out ahead of time, as I always like to know the basic size and layout of a place before we have the actual party. Oh my... This is going to be EPIC! The hall has enough space for up to 300 people. No kidding. It has a dance floor, a small bar that will be staffed just for us, and with the current setup and tables and such, can easily handle 100 to 150 with plenty of elbow room. The kitchen has a microwave, an oven/stove, a big sink, and even a Foreman grill. There is also a good size cooler to store stuff that needs to be refrigerated. And two big-ass grill/smokers are just outside if anyone gets the urge to be extra-manly. There's also plenty of parking, the entire place is accesible for the wheeled members of the Forum, they even have extra bathrooms. In other words, invite your friends - this is by no means an exclusive party. Just remember the two simple rules: 1) bring something to eat, and 2) don't bring any alcohol (they have plenty of their own).

I didn't notice anything, but will check to see if they have enough or if we need to bring such things.

Are we being charged to use their facilities?
I'd much rather use our own stuff,or at least pay to have anything we use replenished.

Gary: Sorry I missed you yesterday, normally I stop by for a while on Saturday afternoons, but I'm spending this weekend in West Palm Beach, Florida. I would be less than honest if I said I wish I'd been at the VFW. Everything you noted is true. I've been assured that we can "use" all the facilities. There normally aren't enough plastic tableware, plates, napkins, etc. to support an event, though, so I suggest someone stop by Sam's and get some stuff. Also, I'll cover the cost, if any, of using the place. Post or PM if anyone has any questions.

By the way, I've put in an order for a case of Guiness for the bar.

Bringing our own plates, etc is probably a very good idea.

It's always a good "Bachelor" item to bring to a pot luck. Maybe even a nice set of Sharpies to write your name on your cup because they really do all look alike. As the hostess who has cleaned up after the parties where a dozen guests left over 40 half full cups sitting around the house.... Marking your cup saves wasted beverages AND the clean up time!

Yes! Don't assume that every one knows who you are... or remembers your name. As a long time conventioneer and net surfer... I know a LOT of people, most of whom use multiple names & nicks. Keeping everyone straight in this muddled mess of a brain doesn't always work and getting the wrong names with the faces is not an indication of how much a person likes or dislikes you. Heck! I called Gary Poole "Micheal" for years! He ANSWERED to it because he thought it was funny to see how long it would take me to figure out my error.
I'm called Scarlett, Starlett and Poly on different venues. Occasionally, people actually call me Susan, but it's rare. So if folks like me can't remember their own names, don't be offended when you see me glancing at yours.
(Of course, now I'm going to have to make a big deal of looking at name tags. Please feel free to join in the game.)
