Ah, that's what Western New York does best - SNOW. I can remember 80 foot snow drifts, Army tanks stuck in drifts. There was a Dollinger's in Medina. That's where I stayed the last time I was there, 2003, for my Mother's burial. Just give me a last name for your manager. That has to be a long time ago.
Gosh, brings back memories. Some good. You would have loved a clam bake. Absolutely the best picnic in the entire world. Nothing better.

Latest post. He still has pneumonia. The doctors will let him have chemo until the pneumonia is cured. He will have to go back to a different doctor for this. I just hope he will eat something.
Always at his side is cereal and a fruit juice drink. I have told him to nibble all night long. If he loses much more weight, I don't know what will happen.
I'm getting really scared.

Have you tried ensure or any of those kinds of things? They may not be tasty, but they're calories...

Ok - Unpopular Opinion Warning!
This is one of those many, many case where I believe in 'medical marijuana.' I know we have a few old hippies who believe it's a cure all.... and I'm not a doctor, I don't know the whole truth in the matter. But I've heard a lot of arguments made by medical professionals claiming that marijuana is the best, most 'natural' answer for wasting situations like this. Patients who are to nauseated to eat lose their appetite and don't eat... then lose so much weight that they don't have the energy reserves to 'fight back'. Let's face it, lots of prescribed medications make you 'high'. What the heck would be so wrong with prescribing an oral medication based on pot to help out people who NEED those stomach calming, appetite enhancing qualities?
Just my two cents from someone who has watched many friends and relatives just 'waste away' because they were to sick to eat. Some recovered. Some didn't. While in that situation, we would have tried anything available to get our loved ones to EAT.
Ohwell, I'm so sorry that you're still going through this. I do wish there were something I could do other than wish you well. Big Hugs!

Thank you, all, for everything. I really apprecite the concern. Neither m husband or I have ever even see marijuana. I know, sounds unbelievable. But, I would be willing to try some at this point. He will see a doctor tomorrow. I don't know which one, but he will see a doctor tomorrow.

"Western NY is beautiful."
Most of my family is in the area...and we had a mini-reunion at Letchworth again this year (we rent all the cabins in one of the "circles" and have community meals. Fredonia/Jamestown/Clymer are the "homestead" areas, roughly.

As to the husband's appetite, I vote against MJ, but a debate n this particular thread is unwarranted. I do suggest that anything with calories be allowed...Carnation Instant Breakfast, Clumpie's Malted Milk Shakes, ginger Ale...anything that he can sip or nibble...energy bars, nutty bars, pop tarts, angel food cake, saltines with butter/peanut butter/cream cheese/pimiento cheese/strawberry jam...even dip them in ice cream. When my grandfather was fighting liver cancer, he just about survived on jello blended with Cool Whip. He enjoyed lime, and could keep it down fairly well. When it did come back up, it was whipped, so it didn't cause as many problems.

I have to ask, at Letchworth, are there still signs for the Comfort Stations? It was really hard to find a bathroom or public restroom. The other one, and I can't remember where was Relief Station.

I can be not a nice person. Several people have backed away from me. I asked my daughter one time why. She said, "Mom, if you could see the look in your eyes." Another time my husband came home from work, told me to hush. My daughter told him to shut up. She said, "Mom's not mad at me. When she's mad, her voice is really low and you have to listen."
I kinda feel sorry for that doctor tomorrow. Oh, I called at 4:45 and he has an appointment at 8:30 tomorrow. I have told my husband that I will go back with him. His response, please don't. Ohwell, I am also taking all 22 prescriptions and asking what they are for. I will get answers and my husband will feel better tomorrow. Or else.

In the cabin areas, they have public restrooms/showers/laundary buildings. Each group of 3-4 "circles" per building. The camping areas are a bit more...primitive. They have erected a very high fence around the railroad trestle/tracks to discourage any mor hikers going out onto the tracks...not very structurally sound at this point. They are now doing Ranger-led hikes based on themes: Indian history, haunted areas, wildlife walks, and even living off the land (edible herbs, etc.). There is never a shortage of things to do, from kayaking to hot-air balloon rides. Horse rentals (for riding - you perverts) are very popular as well.

I can remember when my Father was dying. Pancreatic cancer, undiagnosed. I marched out and look at the nurse, asked for a pain shot, he looked at his record, stated it wasn't time. The doctor had left instructions for a pain shot as needed by his family. Oh, yeah, he followed me back in the room.
Now, one doctor found the cancer, another doctor found the pneumonia, another doctor prescribe a diuretic. Dah??? Things will get straightened out tomorrow. Period, end of subject. You can kiss my ass as I leave the building. Someone will help and someone will understand. Period, end of subject. And that is spoken with a very soft voice

Oh, with my Dad and my Father-in-law, the doctors did respond. I don't come across as belligerent, hateful, or mean. Its just that I care a great deal and you will explain. I guess I should explain, I care, and you will explain. Simple, because I will not leave.

When I was released from erlanger after my crash, because medicaid ran out. I was having a hard time and the staff at clinic were so rushed when you asked them a question they answered it and then filed out before the next question got asked.
One day the 4 or 5 drs came in to the room and my Mom picked up her chair and set it in front of the door, blocking it. When the chief dr looked questioningly at her she said "Today we have more than one question" He smiled and hopped up on the bed with me as the others found places to sit.
They get caught up in the assembly line medicine that is forced on them. break the pattern and they usually turn out to be nice.

Oh come on I'll bet with the violent tendencies that MJ causes that after a jay or two he could totally kill a cheeseburger!

We went to the doctor's office and straight to a room at Erlanger. He will be moved to ICU tonight or tomorrow. I had to come home to take care of some stuff. Five nurses and three doctors in the room at one time. He did feel better when I left. The bacterial infection is not pneumonia. They don't know what it is. But I bet they'll find out. Everyone was great.
I'm going to lay down and cry. Maybe I'll feel better. His weight has dropped from 225 to 148. His blood pressure was 63/35. The oxygen in his blood was 58. That is not good..

Bertween the neighbor's dog barking and my husband's coughing, I've been getting 3 to 4 hours sleep a night. I have lost about 10 pounds and when you only weigh 108, that's a lot. Right now I'm drinking one of his Ensure. I haven't eaten since yesterday at 12:30. Buit, I did get a hug from the doctor. Never saw that coming. Crying didn't help, just stuffed up my nose. Guess I hug a dog. The problem is, I don't which one. Maybe I'll just lay on the floor and get kisses.

Lat them all kiss on you. Hopefully, now that he is in the hospital, they will get down to what it is. Drink the Ensure to keep yourself up. I dropped 35 pounds when I had surgery last year. I had no appetite, but did make sure to drink stuff like that to build up. Will be thinking good thoughts for you and your husband.

Oh come on I'll bet with the violent tendencies that MJ causes that after a jay or two he could totally kill a cheeseburger! Now... Don't get me involved in this MJ stuff. Ohwell.. The reason why LimitedRecourse voted against MJ is because he's a police officer... "Medical" marijuana has been shown to help in cases like his though.

Don't care. I have never and my husband has never been around any form of illegal drugs. I'm talking about things like Mary Jane. Now, if you want to talk about moon shine, that's a different story.

Ohwell, moonshine is the new big industry in Orleans County. They call it ethanol but they are taking corn and making alcohol out of it so I don't really see the difference.
You are in my prayers.

Medical Marijuana is called Marinol and it's on the formulary at Erlanger just as cocaine is on the formulary at Erlanger.

Do you know that original Coke was for medicinal purpose? It was first made in Atlanta. The first bottling was in Chattanooga. Did you know it contained cocaine? Sorry, until the bad is taken away from Mary Jane, I don't want to know her.

Sorry, OhWell. Didn't mean to open this can of worms. I never meant to imply that people should 'self medicate' with illegal substances. It was a poorly worded post which was easily misunderstood. My thought processes was that this is yet another case of someone who needs help with a wasting disease. I would support further research on a Legalized, prescription form of medication derived from marijuana to better utilize its helpful qualities.
I was only trying to offer support in that "Gee! I wish there was something someone could do to help your situation!" kind of way. I apologize that it wasn't taken in the same way that "Have you tried mint tea?" might have been. My Bad.

Hey, Scarlett, no offense was taken. I thought after awhile it was funny. I hope I didn't say anything to hurt your feelings. After all, this is America, free speech.
I like rose hip tea. The Collegedale Market has a wonderful variety of herbal tea.
